Thanks to a bigger tax refund than we expected, we had a little extra and I got to go clothes shopping, which hasn't happened (for non-essentials) for about a year. When I bought a pair of jeans. Full out shopping, where I could buy stuff I'll love and use? Much longer than that.
So, I had a $300 budget. I knew I needed a new pair of jeans, but beyond that, I was going to look and see what was available.
I learned that teal/aqua, lime green/yellow, and gray are all big colors this season. Oh, and lavender/pink. Since teal/aqua is a very good color for me, I was happy.
I learned that if you try on 4 pairs of jeans, the fifth will fit. Always try on one more pair.
I learned that lavender is a good color for me.
I learned that the plus sized department (as well as Lane Bryant, as a plus sized store) is very short on long lengths for jeans. Fat people aren't tall, it seems.
For under $300, I got 2 pairs of jeans (
one at LB and
one pair of Levis from Dillard's),
a teal tee from LB that has little rosette things along the collar,
a button down shirt (white with navy and royal blue pinstripes),
a teal cardigan,
a lavender tee with flowy sleeves and a band along the bottom (the band made me nervous at first, but it looked good on), 3 tees from Old Navy (yay $5 sale) (dark gray, dark lavender, and a
light gray with a chrysanthemum screen print), 2 tanks from ON (coral and white), and a dark teal tunicy top with a cool detail along the top, also from ON.
I already got a compliment on the teal shirt from LB. The girl at the yarn shop (yay teal sock yarn!) said it was a good color for me. (I had to change into it because damn, are dressing rooms hot. The individual lights are great for seeing the clothes on your body, but I was wearing a sweater and I had my hair down and the lights made me burn up.)
So, I'm very happy with what I got. The different colors add variety to my wardrobe, and I can use what I bought today as a foundation for buying a piece here and there as I need it. Next on my list: a versatile jacket/blazer that I can wear as a dressy thing or with jeans to go shopping. After that, before the next winter we face (whether here in the states or in South Africa if we go there) (though I've heard that the part of SA we're to be in isn't that cold even during the winter), I want a good winter coat. My leather coat's lasted 3 winters (maybe 4?) now, I think, and luckily leather's one of those things that looks good when it gets worn, but it's time to replace it.
