At night San Francisco has the kind of dystopian darkness that envelops you like a blanket. I feel safe and familiar walking in this darkness lit by intermittent street lamps, very similar to the feeling in Minsk where I was born and spent my early childhood. The feeling of mystery, robbers and phantoms hiding in every brick alley. They never materialized, mind you, but they were always there in spirit. It's a very European idea.
Although in some sense it is very familiar here, I don't feel the urge to travel. On the contrary, I feel centered, like my inside and outside are in agreement. I feel the urge to build long term relationships, find a husband, and stay here forever.
