i think there is an international shortage on humility these days. i guess its always been that way, really. everyone seems to want to go straight to the front of the line...waiting is a completely foreign concept. we seem to think that we're entitled to something, like the world was saving it all up...just waiting for us to get here. but check out what Jesus said:
"...for he who is least among you all-he is the greatest."
that certainly doesn’t jive with these times, does it? over and over again in the Bible God is trying to teach us the right way, but it just doesn't "feel" right to us...so we miss it. He's got plenty of time though, we're the ones who are running out of it -- but we live as if we're not.
i like the way the old song, "everyone will crawl", by charlie sexton puts it:
i climbed up on the mountain..and i snuck up on the Man....
with my notebook of stone open...and my chisel in my hand...
i said, "how come things are so tough down here..how come we all must fall?"
He said, "first you gotta learn to walk. then you gotta learn to run. then you learn to fly...and THEN you learn to crawl..."
save a place for me at the back of the line. i'm trying to crawl back there...
