CHAPTER 2

The room fell in an awkward silence the minute Akanishi came inside. There was no big group hug, no friendly hellos.. just polite nods acknowledging each other. Even Junno is silent.. which is very unusual because normally he wouldn’t be able to read the atmosphere. Somehow, this time, he did. Jin proceeded to sit in the far right of the conference room. Fiddling with his phone. For a time Kame wondered where he left his daughter as she is nowhere to be seen.

They spent a good 30 minutes in that awkward silence. Nobody seems to know how to start a casual conversation.. which is sad for a group of 6 men who’s practically known each other for almost 20 years.

“Is Johnny coming or what?” Koki was the first to break the silence. Obviously uncomfortable with how tensed the atmosphere is. “Maybe he changed his mind after all?” he said jokingly. Earning a playful hit on the arm by Kame.

A few seconds later there was a knock on the door followed by Yamapi’s head popping from the small opening. “Yo.” He said, almost reminiscent of his Akira days. “Ah~ Itai!” and then he stumbled followed by a small girl Kame had met earlier.

“Papa!” and with that Akanishi stood up and met his daughter halfway. “Theia I told you to wait with Uncle Yamapi.” The father said in perfect English, picking his little daughter up. “I don’t want to!” Theia pouts and glares at his uncle who has now regained his balance. “Uncle is waaaay too loud.” The kid said exaggeratingly and his uncle could just gape at her, surprised at how fluent little Ms. Akanishi is with English.

Realizing that there are at least 5 more pairs of eyes looking at them, Jin turned to face them and presented his daughter. “Ano.. I know for most of you this is the first time to meet my daughter.. This is Theia.” Jin then whispered something to the little girl and she bowed her head. “Yoroshikyuu~”

“Ah! She’s too cute!” Junno exclaimed. “Hello there! I’m Uncle Junno!” then Junno spun around “Iriguchi deguchi Taguchi desuuu~” and for a while there the room fell silent again while Junno looked expectantly at Theia. He was about to give up when suddenly the little girl laughed so loud they weren’t sure how this much laughter can come from such a small child. “You’re funny!” she said in between laughs and that made Junno so happy he tried to carry Theia and she willingly obliged. “I like this uncle!” she announced. They heard Yamapi whimper on the corner. “More than me, Theia-chan?”

“Yup! Because Uncle Pi is baaaakaaaa.” And everyone laughed.

“How about me, Theia-chan?” Maru spoke as he went upfront the little girl to pinch her cheeks. “Ah! Uncle Maru!” she exclaimed as she clapped her hands. “You’re still my favourite because your nose is kawaaaiiiii~” Okay. So this kid likes elongating her words.

Maru acted like he was hurt and just stared at the little girl. Looking pained like he always does when the members bully him.

Ueda came in next and when he was about to hug little Akanishi, she kind of flinched and distanced herself. “Kowaii!” she mumbled. Junno and Maru laughed. “Oi Tat-chan you scared the poor girl!” Ueda looked dumbfounded. “but I was just going to hug her.” He reasoned out-- Totally no idea why the little girl finds him scary.

“That’s Ueda, Papa’s friend… right?” that small question in the end was directed to Ueda with Jin confirming is they are still friends after everything that’s happened.

“Right. And it’s Uncle Ueda for you, little missy.” He settled on ruffling the little girl’s hair and somehow, Theia relaxed to his touch, flashing him a charming smile.

Everyone’s eyes then fell on Koki, who was unusually quiet, just observing everything that’s going on. “Ah-I’m Uncle Koki.. I guess?” he let out a nervous laugh. Everybody can understand why Koki feels awkward.. after all the last time he was in the same room as Akanishi was when they had a terrible fight that ended in both of them swinging punches at each other. As much as Koki wanted to approach the little girl, it would be awkward to do so knowing how his last meeting with her father didn’t go so well.

All eyes then fell to Kame, still seated and seemingly wanting to crawl his way out of the room.

“Ah! You’re that nice uncle from earlier!” Little Theia exclaimed. She wriggled her way out of Junno’s embrace and walked towards Kame with the latter’s eyes growing bigger with every step she makes. “So you’re papa’s friend too!” the girl practically threw herself at Kame for a big hug.

Kame noticed everyone wince at the word friend while he sat there immobile. He was able to let out a nervous laugh and was about to say something when Pi beat him to it. “Alrightyyy~ Theia-chan I think it’s enough now..” Pi went and took Theia from Kame earning a pout from the little miss. “I promise I wont be so loud anymore if you come with me. You see Papa and your new uncles are working so we really cant stay here.”

“But I want to play with my new uncles! Im bored with you Uncle Pi!” Theia protested. Pi looked helplessly at Jin, needing rescue from his daughter.

“Theia, please listen to Uncle Pi. I told you we cannot play during work, right?” Jin approached Theia and brushed a finger on her cheek. The little girl seems to listen well to her father, nodding, although a bit unwillingly. “But Papa you promise you’ll bring all my new uncles to visit me at home, okay?” Theia then scanned the room. “Especially the nice uncle who gave me treats!” and for what seems like the nth time that night, all eyes turned to Kame.

Great. Now he’s the favourite uncle.

-

Theia only left after Jin promised he’d let her new uncles attend her birthday party. She’s turning 6 in a few weeks and on her birthday every year, there’s always a get together at the Akanishi residence. Before stepping out, Theia approached Kame for the last time and told her what specific treats she want. On the corner of his eyes, Kame saw Jin fidget and shift his weight from one foot to another, obviously uncomfortable at how much his daughter likes her new uncle.

“Took you long enough to introduce your daughter to us huh, Akanishi.” Ueda broke the thick silence engulfing them once Pi and Theia left. “I was starting to think you’re not planning to introduce her to us at all.” There was still bitterness lacing Ueda’s words and Jin just pursed his lips tight. “I didn’t see a right time to introduce her before. Come visit my place on her birthday, I’ll introduce you to my little boy too.”

“Papa Jin huh?” there was mockery in Koki’s voice. Jin just took it all in. Usually he’d be beating Koki into a pulp right now for how he’s acting, but then again Jin knew he was in the wrong. Well at least everyone sees it that way but none knew the whole story anyways-except Kame, that is.

Jin was just about to excuse himself to get some fresh air when Johnny suddenly came inside the room. “Ah! So good to see the 6 of you in one room again! Behaving so well too~” he’s unusually very chirpy, that Jin noticed. “Sorry for not giving a heads up that today will be your first meeting. We’re a bit caught up in between all the documents needed and formulating press releases to get this reunion going, but so far so good! I’m happy everyone agreed to do this.” Well, Johnny can be sure he’s the only delighted one. How can he not be? He’s the one benefitting from this whole ordeal after all.

“I hope you don’t mind that we get down to business straight ahead as im sure you’ve all caught up nicely since I’ve already given you time for that… so now we discuss the length of this reunion. This regrouping, for now, is still a temporary act. You guys will go on a nationwide tour ending with the Countdown. We’re still working on how many cities but definitely it won’t be as many as the ones you had before. Our strategy for this one is to stir the hearts of your old fangirls and in the process accumulate new ones. We’re expecting a lot from this reunion tour and if this goes well, we’ll probably drag this out longer. Long enough to-“

“I will not stay longer than what I had intended to stay for, Johnny. I think I made that clear when I agreed to this. Just the tour and then that’s it.” Jin voiced out his protest. He cannot let this drag longer than he thinks he can take. He’s not even sure why he agreed in the first place. This is dangerous water he’s swimming into..

“Then you should not have come back.” Came a silent response from across the room. Jin’s eyes darted to Kame. “Obviously, you do not want this. So why agree to be here at all?” Kame has no idea why he’s voicing all of these out now. He wanted to be silent. To not speak and to not have any conversation at all with his old friend but then he heard what Jin said and he felt a deep streak of pain knowing that Jin couldn’t even be bothered to stay longer if this turns out a success.  “It’s better you withdraw now while no official statement is out yet than to shock us all again with you leaving the last minute.”

Jin didn’t know how to respond. He didn’t expect to have this showdown with Kame this early into their reunion. Now he’s really regretting ever agreeing to this.

“I think-“ Maru immediately jumped in the conversation. “I think it’s best to see how this goes first. Get the feel of having the 6 of us standing in the same stage again. Im sure it wouldn’t be that bad, ne?” Surely, some positivity needs to shine in this very tensed looking room.

Kame glanced at Johnny. This sly old fox. Bringing turbulence to his almost finally-smooth sailing life.

The meeting went on with Johnny giving a rough estimate of their schedules. Jin groaned inwardly, he definitely did not miss this jampacked schedule. To top it all off he cannot remember much of the lyrics to their old songs! Now isn’t he fucked?

After a good hour or two, the dreaded meeting finally concluded. Maru offered for all of them to have dinner and continue catching up. Most of them agreed, except for Kame and Jin.

“I have to take Theia home.. Meisa.. she’s waiting for me.” He said.

“Oh that’s right. Sorry, somehow I still forget that you’re a married man now.” Maru muttered. “What about you Kame?”

“Not in the mood. I’d rather sleep.” And with that, Kame is out of the door.

Jin followed suit, excusing himself hurriedly to get his daughter.

The 4 men left in the room sighed altogether. “You know what, I don’t see any problem with this whole reunion thing. I think we’ll all be okay. It’s those two im worried about.” Maru said as he stared at the open door.

“Did you feel the tension surrounding the room earlier?! Man that sucked!” Junno exclaimed. “Having them in the same room together definitely makes it feel like the old times now ne~ I foresee a lot of fighting from now on..”

“Do you think Kame can do this?” Koki directed his question to Ueda. “Who knows?” the latter simply shrugged.

-

“Mama!” Theia exclaimed as soon as they entered the house. Jin closed the door and took off his shoes, walking inside he found his wife by the living room, their son on her arms.

Jin walked over to Meisa and gave her a kiss on top of her head. the latter gave him a gentle squeeze on the arm. “Sorry I couldn’t be home in time to watch Theia.”

Jin flopped down beside her, throwing his head back. “It’s alright. Pi looked after her.”

“Yes! Annoying uncle Pi! I wanted to stay with my new uncles tho!” there goes the pout again as Theia crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“New uncles?” Meisa wondered then realized what she meant. “Oh you mean you met Papa’s friends?” Theia nodded furiously.

Meisa spared a side glance to her husband and he’s just there with his stoic face. But even though he may appear expressionless, Meisa definitely knew what’s bothering him.

“Ne Theia-chan, why don’t you get all cleaned up and get ready for bed, okay? You have school tomorrow, remember?” She prompted her daughter, knowing exactly that Jin needs to talk to her in private. She stood up and made her way to her son’s room to put him to bed. As she did that, she saw Jin taking care of Theia. As Jin bathed their daughter, Meisa stood by the doorway. She had always loved the fact that Jin is a very hands-on father, contrary to what the media often makes of him.

After washing Theia and putting her to bed, Jin made his way to their bedroom where Meisa is waiting.

“Tough day?” she asked softly as soon as Jin settled on his side of the bed.

“You can say that.” He breathed out. She moved closer and hugged his arm. “How did it go?” although seeming that he does not want to talk about it, Meisa knew that’s exactly what he needs to do. She’s known him well enough to navigate through his moods.

“Well awkward is one way to put it. Didn’t help that our daughter somehow ended up liking Kamenashi too much.” Meisa couldn’t help but to let out a soft laugh hearing that. Now how ironic was that?

“It’s difficult to feel like I still belong there when everytime they look at me all I can see is uncertainty. I do not understand why they still cant let go of old grudges. I mean-I have!” There there.. Jin had finally vented out.

“Have you?” came Meisa’s simple yet meaningful inquiry. She stared at him, finding words in his expression. “Have you, really?” she asked again.

Jin knew what his wife is pertaining to as he stared right back at her. He knew Meisa knows the truth. She knew everything about him. He’s not sure if he’s just really an open book or the 6 years of marriage exposed him to his wife completely.

“Just take things slowly, Jin. They’re all still shocked. You all went through difficult times. No one had it harder.. somehow you all carried the same dead weight one way or another. So let them breathe for now. Especially Kamenashi-kun.” Jin is lucky to have Meisa. She’s the calm in his chaos.

When they got together several years back, Jin was such a mess even he found it difficult to love himself. But this woman…  this woman who knew all his weaknesses, who accepted his broken state.. she loved him all this while without expecting anything in return. She knew everything and yet she stayed.

“You’ll be okay.” She smiled reassuringly as she made her way in between his arm and torso, hugging him. “Just promise me one thing Jin.” She looked up to meet his eyes again. “Promise me nothing will change.” And she settled back in to his arms.

Jin didn’t know to what extent Meisa had meant. But he surely didn’t build himself after all these years for everything to come crumbling down now. He hummed his reply as he let himself be lulled to sleep by his own thoughts.

A/N: Okay, so now im introducing Meisa and Jin’s relationship to the story. From here on things will start to make weird turns. Im pretty sure some NC-17 chapters will follow as well. Along with some more angst. Well, we can never really live without angst now can we? XDDD Short note this time because my eyes are starting to shut on their own and I still have a toddler to put to bed. Please please do let me know what you think of this. I’ve already laid out some outlines for the story and I hope I get to follow it accordingly. I’m excited about this one! Thinking of putting this up in wattpad too! <3
