Part 2
Part 1 ****
The time for Yabu to work had already ended half and an hour ago but he did not bother to leave his room. He simply sat down on the bed where he usually examined his patients. His face looked so gloomy as if he was thinking something agony in his life. It was true after all. He was thinking something that gave his heart pain. It was none other than about Hikaru’s father, Mr. Yaotome. He had showed his objection to his idea to marry his daughter, Hikaru. As a father he somewhat could have an understanding about his decision. Just like any parents, just like any father who had a daughter, he simply wanted to protect her. He did not want his daughter to spend the rest of her life with an irresponsible and unreliable man. However, as a man, as a man who fell in love, as a lover, he could not accept his decision. He simply wanted to make those two happy and protect them through a family. He had to do something to melt the hatred on Mr. Yaotome’s heart… but how???
“Kou…”
Yabu heard someone softly called him. It was familiar voice. He opened his eyes and looked up, finding Hikaru stood one step apart before him. “Hika?” He mumbled in question to see her there. It was really a great surprise as her father had forbidden her to see him again.
Hikaru stretched her hand and landed it on Yabu’s skinny cheek, softly caressing it. She avoided having her eyes on Yabu’s, she simply locked them at her hand. She had been quite long watched him before making him notice her presence. Even though she did not look his eyes, she could see the sadness from his body language. The way he sat down on the bed, unmoving while looking down. It reminded her when Yabu told him about his plan to enter university. In one hand, he wanted to make his father’s wish came true, but in the other hand, he did not want to leave her. He was confused to decide and ever blamed the difference of their ages. And now… she knew very well, the handsome doctor was in the confusion because of their relationship.
Yabu just stayed in silence as he enjoyed the gentle caress on his cheek. Although without words, he could tell that Hikaru tried to soothe his heart. Suddenly, he felt a pair of arms found their way on him. “Hi-Hika?” He asked in surprise.
“Sorry…”
The second word he heard from Hikaru was unexpected. “W-why???” He stuttered by a fear. There were many interpretations from that one word. She either could apologize for her father or she tried to say she would follow her father’s order.
“Otou-chan has punched you.” Hikaru replied in regret. She did not know her father would harshly treat Yabu when they met today. Moreover, they even had not explained anything.
Yabu slowly smiled, feeling relief Hikaru did not say the thing he feared the most. “Ii yo…” He tersely replied as he hooked his arms around her.
“But…”
“He’s right to punch me.” Yabu quickly cut Hikaru’s words. “In his eyes… I’m wrong… Hika… no matter what…” He admitted it felt kind of good after Mr. Yaotome punched him. It, indeed, hurt, but it what he should get since Hikaru had refused to slap him and he could not slap himself in that strong.
“But… you aren’t…” Hikaru objected as she tightened her arms on Yabu. She wondered why her father refused to hear their explanation firstly before he punched Yabu. “I-I…”
“No…” Yabu butted in again. “You’re not either.” He said and caressed Hikaru’s hair.
Hikaru remained silent after Yabu claimed she was not wrong either. She was happy he did not blame her for what happened between them.
“So… why are you coming here?” Yabu bewildered asked. “Your father has warned you not to see me, hasn’t he?” Although he delivered that question in worry about the scold she might get, he realized the joy he felt was bigger.
The only daughter of Yaotome’s did not move from her position that closely clinging at Yabu. “Yeah… he has.” Hikaru showed her agreement. “But… there’s something I have to tell you.” She said with quite shaky voice.
Yabu frowned and got worry by the tone his lover used. “Something?” He urged and gently released his arms around her.
Hikaru did the same and nodded her head, staring sadly at Yabu. “I have told otou-chan… everything.”
Yabu simply listened at her patiently. He actually could guess what happened after she told her father. It must be something unpleasant, just like he predicted two days ago. Mr. Yaotome did not want to understand.
“But… he didn’t change his mind. He keeps forbidding me to get married with you.” Hikaru continued speaking while her eyes became shining by tears. She was so sad why her father still had the same thought although he had found the truth. “I-I-I have tried… Kou… to convince him.” She guiltily said. The thing was just like Yabu ever said. Her father did not let them to get together. “But… I failed… I’m so sorry.” She did not know what to say anymore.
Yabu squeezed her hands gently as he called her name, “Hachibee…”
Hikaru could not brave enough to look at Yabu. She felt embarrassed since she could not keep her words to make her father understand, to give his bless to their plan for marriage.
Yabu flashed a small smile although it was a little sad. He moved his hand, wiping her tears from her eyes. “You’ve done what you could, dear…” He soothingly said. He could not maintain to see her always sad and sad because of their relationship.
Hikaru slowly lifted her face up to find Yabu was smiling at her. “You’re not angry at me?”
Yabu shook his head side to side firmly. “Of course not.”
Hikaru sighed. “It’s just like what you’ve said.”
“Well…”
“So… what should we do?”
“Nothing.” Yabu lightly replied.
That short reply was able to make Hikaru stared at him unbelievably. They did not do anything? “N-n-nothing?” She repeated.
Yabu stared back at Hikaru in unreadable expression. “Yeah. There’s nothing we can do.”
“KOU!” Hikaru yelled in frustration.
Yabu startled as Hikaru yelled at him. “Hika?”
“Nothing? You said there’s nothing we can do?” She raised her voice. “You mean we should give up?” It hurt her heart. She wondered alone what Yabu actually thought. Did he change his mind this fast? He was the one seemed to so eager to marry her two days ago, wasn’t him? He even planned to take her along with Chihara if her father refused. But… now… he was the only one who seemed to give up already.
Yabu eyed her looks. There were clearly frustration, unbelief, shock as well as sadness upon her. He could tell that she did not expect him to say something so calm and light like that, as if he changed his mind and did not care about their plan.
“Alright.” Hikaru said and turned around to hide her eyes which were brimming with tears. “I won’t force…” She added and started to walk away but was held by a hand that tightly squeezed her wrist.
“There’s one way.” The owner of the hand spoke out. “But we know you don’t like it.”
Hikaru went silent. She understood what he was saying. He did not change his mind about his earlier plan, for running away. But he also knew she never wanted to do it.
“You don’t want to run, do you?” Yabu asked. He had not thought about any other way to keep her by his side except by running away.
Hikaru turned around, staring at him. “Yeah…” She weakly replied, nodding her head. “I… I ever once ran… ran from them… ran from you...” She slowly muttered. “I thought it’s the best way for all, but then I didn’t find it right.” She walked closer and sat next to Yabu. “I just hurt the three of you even more.” She sadly mumbled then rested her head on his shoulder, looking for a support.
Yabu naturally wrapped his arm on her shoulder. Hikaru got the point.
“So… I don’t want to redo my mistake once again by running away from them.” She stated. “I love you, Kouta… but I also love my parents. Please, don’t ask me to choose one of you.” She begged in heartbreaking tone. She really could not choose either her parents or Yabu. They were absolutely people whom she loved and vice versa.
“Alright.” He replied as softly caressing her locks. He would be so egoist if he kept asking her to runaway. It was not wise either to force her to ‘lose’ her parents like this.
“There must be something we can do, Kou.” Hikaru confidently stated. She believed there was still a way to make them her father understood and let the two of them got married.
“Like?”
Hikaru went silent after Yabu delivered the question. She thought so hard to find an answer. “Hmm…” She mumbled after minutes passed by. “How about….”
****
“She looks so in peace, nee.” Yabu commented as they went to see their daughter.
“Well… she always looks like that when sleeping.” Hikaru replied. “So calm, quite, and peaceful… as if doesn’t have any burden.”
Yabu smiled then leaned forward to plant a light kiss on his daughter’s forehead. “But… seeing her face like this… somehow make me forget my tiredness.”
“Indeed. I feel the same too whenever I see her sleeping soundly like this.” It might be something that made her kept going on although sometimes she felt so tired after worked.
“Alright, you should go to sleep as well, Hika.” Yabu ordered as he grabbed her hand gently, dragging her to the couch.
“You’re the same too, Kou.” She reminded.
“Yes… I’ll sleep after making sure you’ve already fell asleep.” He answered and pulled her head to his chest and wrapped a blanket around her.
“Ok.” She tersely said and snuggled closer to him. “Oyasumi, Kouta.” She said before closing her eyes.
Yabu planted a light kiss on her forehead after said ‘Oyasumi’ and went to sleep afterwards.

Mr. Yaotome got a GREAT surprise by the time he entered Chihara’s room at the hospital. He looked his granddaughter just finished having breakfast and was chatting happily with her mother and also the guy he hated. He sharply stared at them as he made his way nearing them.
“Ojii-chan!” Chihara cheerfully greeted after seeing her grandfather.
“Ohayou, dear…” Mr. Yaotome said and ruffled her hair. “How’re you today?” He lovingly asked, trying to be as usual as he could in front of Chihara. He did not want to have a fight with Yabu in front of his little daughter. It was not good for her psychological development to see him and Yabu fought. She was still too young to know about her parents’ past.
“I’m really fine, ojii-chan!” Chihara innocently answered. “And I’m so happy now…”
“Why?”
“Because… besides ojii-chan and obaa-chan came… I also finally met otou-san!” Chihara replied happily, looking at where his father sat down.
Mr. Yaotome forced a smile. He really did not want to smile hearing that statement came out from his grand daughter’s mouth. He disliked the fact that Chihara was happy to meet his father. The most useless and irresponsible man.
On the other side, Hikaru could not hide her fear to see her father today. She was sure her father disliked to see Yabu kept seeing the two of them after he gave a warning yesterday. However, she could do nothing to obey her beloved father this time. Yabu wanted to be together with them like the way it should be and Chihara and she wished the same. The three of them simply wanted to get together, to make their little happy family. Why could her father not understand that simple reason? She and Yabu were at fault until Chihara should be born before a marriage, but… NOW… they wanted to pay their mistakes from the past. They wanted to give Chihara what she should get, the affection and attention from both of her parents, from her and Yabu.
Yabu was not to be told to know what kind of feelings Mr. Yaotome had when he found him was on Chihara’s room, having breakfast with his beloved ones. The only feelings the older man had simply hatred and disappointed as he did not listen to his order earlier. He respected Mr. Yaotome, really, but he could not maintain to be separated from Hikaru and Chihara after he knew every thing. He did not want to repeat his mistake for leaving the two again, intentionally or not. Therefore, he had determined to against Mr. Yaotome’s order. He would keep staying there, beside Hikaru and Chihara.
“Alright, Otou-san should go to the school now.” Yabu said, looking at his daughter. “Don’t forget to eat your medicine, dear.” He reminded lovingly.
Before Chihara could give a proper answer, her grand father quickly responded. “You don’t have to worry about that. What for do you think I’m here? Just playing around?” He said dryly, not hiding his objection about Yabu’s presence there.
Hikaru gave Yabu a soft tap on his shoulder, encouraging him not to mind her father’s annoyed tone.
Yabu took a breath a second. “I feel so relief, then, Yaotome-san.” He thanked him, earning a questioning look from the older. He did not to have a quarrel with him this morning. It would make everything get worse.
“Okaa-san should go to work as well, Hara-chan.” Hikaru stated. “Don’t bother ojii-chan, understand?” She asked before landing a light kiss on her forehead.
“Ung…” Chihara tersely replied, nodding her head. “I won’t trouble ojii-chan.”
“Take care, Hara-chan.” Yabu said lovingly. As much as he wanted to give a little kiss on her daughter, he knew the best Mr. Yaotome would object it. Thus, he held his desire back, for everyone’s good.
Mr. Yaotome could only narrow his eyes seeing the way the man he hated looked at her grand daughter. It was undeniable full of love and concern. He really wanted to land his hand on his face again because of pretending to love her but the smile Chihara showed held him back.
“I’ll excuse myself, Yaotome-san.” Yabu politely said, bowing down to Hikaru’s father. “Please take care of my daughter.” He added before standing up and walked to the door.
Mr. Yaotome did nothing as a respond.
Hikaru could only take breath by her father’s cold act towards Yabu. “I have to go too.” She said before making her way to the door as well. Although Mr. Yaotome said nothing, Hikaru could feel her father gave a slight anger-stare to her.
And… after the two left, Mr. Yaotome darted his gaze to Chihara. “Do you like that guy, Chihara-chan?” He asked.
Chihara frowned. “That guy?”
“The one who just left with your mother.” He cleared.
Chihara kept frowning but answered in the end. “I don’t like him, ojii-chan.”
Those words made Mr. Yaotome happy.
“But… I love him… ojii-chan… He’s my lovely otou-san.” Chihara spoke out, making her grand father’s smile slowly faded away.
“How can you love him, dear? You two just met, didn’t you?” Mr. Yaotome questioned.
Chihara smiled at Mr. Yaotome. “I’m just going to tell you… ojii-chan.”
“About?”
“The days I’ve spent with otou-san.” Chihara happily replied.
****
“Do you think it’ll work?” Yabu asked when they were walking side by side out of the hospital.
Hikaru turned to look at him, smiling a little. “Let’s see together, Kouta.” She soothingly muttered.
Yabu said nothing afterwards, he hoped his plan would turn out fine. He then naturally pulled Hikaru closer to him.
****
“Ah… it’s so good to be outside.” Chihara chirped in happiness when she finally could get out from her ward although was not allowed to leave the hospital yet.
“Are you happy?” Yabu questioned as he pushed the wheel chair where Chihara was sitting on.
“Yes, otou-san. I’m so happy can get out from that boring room.” Chihara replied, making her parents giggled.
“You really don’t like stay on your room, nee.” Hikaru said.
“Yes, okaa-san. I missed to play around outside.”
“Sa, let’s sit here.” Yabu suggested after he found an empty bench.
Chihara was so happy when Yabu carried her and let her to sit on his laps. She finally could be like any other her friends whom she often looked sat on their fathers’ laps.
Hikaru simply smiled looking at the closeness between those two. She was really glad Yabu could accept Chihara as his daughter and Chihara could accept Yabu as her father. She opened the bento boxes that she carried along from home.
“Saa… you should eat now.” Hikaru ordered lovingly as she brought the chopsticks with food between them closer to Chihara’s mouth.
Chihara gladly opened her mouth to swallow the food her mother made for them. Hikaru could not stop smiling seeing her daughter ate.
Meanwhile, Yabu slightly pouted seeing Hikaru fed Chihara. “Ii na… being sick.” He mumbled in sudden.
Hikaru and Chihara tilted their heads and found Yabu looked unhappy.
“Why do you say something like that, otou-san?” Chihara confusedly asked.
“’Coz… when you’re sick… you’ll get more attention.” Yabu childishly replied.
Hikaru slightly rolled her eyes, knowing very well what Yabu trying to say.
“Otou-san?” Chihara mumbled a question.
“You’ll be fed by a very beautiful woman.”
Chihara laughed, getting her father’s point. “So, otou-san wants okaa-san to feed you?”
Yabu quickly nodded his head. He felt being left there as Hikaru only gave her attention to Chihara. She acted as if he was not around. He averted his gaze to Hikaru, hoping she got his point.
Hikaru looked away and continued feeding Chihara.
“Okaa-san…” Yabu whimpered.
“What?”
“Feed me…” Yabu begged and gave her his puppy eyes.
“Don’t be like a child… you’re a father now…” Hikaru lightly refused.
“Okaa-san… please…” Yabu kept persuading.
Chihara could not stop giggling. She just knew that her father could be like a little child in front of her mother.
“No…” Hikaru insisted. She thought it was embarrassing to feed Yabu there, at an open field.
Yabu sighed. “Okaa-san is so cold at me… now…” He whimpered and pouted.
Chihara pitied her father. “Okaa-san, could you feed otou-san as well?”
“No… dear… He can eat by himself.”
“Please… okaa-san…” Chihara begged softly. “For me?” She persuaded.
Hikaru took a glance at Yabu who was staring at her with teary-pleaded eyes.
Seeing those two pleaded, Hikaru could not bring herself to keep saying ‘No’. She took another bit of the food and directed it to Yabu’s mouth.
Yabu smiled looking at the food in front of him. “Smile, okaa-san.” He instructed as he looked there was no smile from her. “You look beautiful when you smile.” He said before taking the food into his mouth.
And with that, Hikaru curved a smile on her lips, blushing.
Chihara chuckled again, seeing her parents. “Otou-san really loves okaa-san, nee?”
“Mochiron…” Yabu replied right away, making Hikaru blushed even more. “I really love her… and you as well.” He added and pulled his daughter closer to him.
“Really?” Chihara asked.
Yabu nodded. “The two of you are my treasure and I don’t want to lose either of you.”
“Me too… otou-san.” Chihara stated, turning to face her lovely parents. “I love both of you and I want we can be always like this… together.”
Yabu and Hikaru stared lovingly at their daughter. They wished the same, for the three of them being like this.
“We will… dear.” Yabu said firmly as he wrapped his arm around Hikaru. “The three of us. Otou-san promise that.”
And Chihara flashed a wide smile as she hugged her mother and father. “Promise?”
“Promise.” Yabu and Hikaru said in unison as they hugged Chihara back. The two of them would not give up convincing Mr. Yaotome to let them got married. It was for Chihara’s sake too.
Not far from their place, Mr. Yaotome was standing and watching the three of them with many feelings and thoughts on his mind.
