Nice. The Feds deliberately and illegally flood the Mexican border with American firearms, leading to the deaths of at least two American law enforcement officers and countless Mexican civilians, then impose new regulations on firearms sales to stem the tide of American firearms to Mexico.
Gee! Who could have seen that coming? Is there any question any more about what the reason behind Operation Gunwalker was?

Sispey Street Irregulars, one of the groups responsible for bringing this disgusting, immoral, illegal mess to light...
The Gunwalker Scandal Made Simple
There are five key accusations against ATF and DOJ made by ATF whistleblowers and other sources within FedGov:
1. That they instructed U.S. gun dealers to proceed with questionable and illegal sales of firearms to suspected gunrunners.
2. That they allowed or even assisted in those guns crossing the U.S. border into Mexico to "boost the numbers" of American civilian market firearms seized in Mexico and thereby provide the justification for more firearm restrictions on American citizens and more power and money for ATF.
3. That they intentionally kept Mexican authorities in the dark about the operation, even over objections of their own agents.
4. That weapons that the ATF let "walk" to Mexico were involved in the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and ICE agent Jaime Zapata, as well as at least hundreds of Mexican citizens.
5. That at least since the death of Brian Terry on 14 December, the Obama administration is engaged in a full-press cover-up of the facts behind what has come to be known as the "Gunwalker Scandal."
Despite protests from gun store owners and ATF field agents, more than four thousand rifles have been allowed to walk into Mexico and into the hands of the drug lords. Still, that's nothing compared to the tens of thousands of military weapos that the US Government has sold to the Mexican Government, which were then sold to the drug lords by corrupt politicians; or the flood of military weapons pouring into Mexico from South America, which is where the overwhelming majority of them have been proven to be coming from.
But if you listen to American mainstream media, you'd think that there'd be no war in Mexico if it weren't for American gun stores.
The only real questions remaining about Gunwalker is who authorized it. All sources, from testifying agents to emails to written orders, indicate that it was approved by the Attorney General, despite his denials while under oath before Congress.
Some of the sources indicate that the authorization came from a higher level than that... ie., the Oval Office. Remember when the President was called to task by the Brady Campaign for not doing anything about gun control so far in his term, and he reassured them by saying, "I just want you to know that we are working on it. We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."?
Of course, the President assures us that he knew nothing about Gun Walker. What did he say, again? Oh yeah, "It’s a pretty big government, it’s got a lot of moving parts."
Nice. From "The buck stops here" to "a lot of moving parts", my, hasn't the Oval Office changed over the years...
Oh yeah, and over three hundred and fifty Gunwalker firearms have been recovered at crime scenes on the American side of the border again, after ATF allowed them to vanish into Mexico...
