And here I am, back with another story snippet of sorts. This one has more closure than the last one though. Hope it's ok! =P
"Not again!?" I yelled in disbelief. As usual, I had fallen asleep while waiting for my friend to take me to the park. And as usual, my friend had decided since I didn't pick up my cell phone, I was apparently not going. I mean seriously. There is a such thing as a house phone to call. My temper rose as my mom fretted over how I would carry my things to the park.
"If you ride your bike, how'll you carry your stuff? Or, well... here, I'll--"
"Stop. Just stop. Thanks for the help but stop. Seriously. I'm walking anyways, seeing as how my bike is stuck in all that junk." I shot a glance at my mom to make sure she didn't break out screaming or crying as she had done in the past, but she didn't. She just cast me a sad look and slowly walked back into the house. I felt dread welling up inside me. Why is it she always ALWAYS has to do that. Always to make me feel guilty... I thought as I trudged through the grass to the sidewalk.
The walk was lengthy. The weather was also rather suffocating. Inside, I fumed about how life seemed to be going downhill, and all during my summer. My SUMMER BREAK! It really ticked me off.
A soft drizzle began to fall.
"Shit. Of all the days to rain, it just HAS to be today..." I sighed as I lifted my tennis racket case over my head. I looked ahead for cars before crossing the street, when a gleam of color caught my eye. Ignoring it, I sullenly crossed the road, deep in thought.
As yet another road came into view, I looked up again to check for cars when that same flash of color caught my eye.
"What the hell...?" I mumbled, finally looking up to the sky, wondering where the color was coming from. The source took a gasp away from me. It was a rainbow. A pure, clear rainbow in the gray sky.
"Wow..." I breathed as I just stared up in awe. It was so rare to see rainbows in that part of town. And when we did, they were always weak, faint, and so... fake. But this one actually had substance. It was bold, bright, and well... actually THERE. I rummaged about my bag, seeing if I had my camera with me. I cursed at the realization I had left it at home.
"Oh well... this'll just have to do..." I mumbled as I slowly took out my phone. Zooming in and adjusting the lighting a bit, I took a picture of that mysterious rainbow. Checking to make sure the picture was saved, I gasped at the captured image on my phone. It was just as vibrant and just as beautiful on my crummy camera phone. What a surprise.
As if some sort of force had lifted my spirits, I suddenly ran the rest of the way to the park, looking forward to a brighter end to my day.
