here goes my first: it was for my local (azn community) newspaper (i was forced to write it last minute b/c as usual, we didn't have enough articles for our youth section, so we EDITORS had to write.  =_= )

Ominous, blue-gray clouds loomed overhead.  Far off in the distance, a train of people could be seen, evacuating the town before the great storm was forecast to hit.  Along the outskirts of town were a few small cabins, already abandoned long ago.  However, as the sky continued to darken, one solitary cabin could be seen, golden yellow light glowing from the windows.  A soft drizzle began to fall.  A silhouette emerged from the humble cabin.  It went into the woods, appearing again with two horses, one a raven black with a solitary white stripe down the middle of its forehead and the other a chocolaty brown with a tan star on its forehead and tan streaks in its tail.  The silhouette came out of the shadows into a small patch of faint light, revealing its features. A second silhouette soon came out of the cabin into the same patch of light, appearing to be carrying a few packs.  The lights from the windows began to fade.  The pair looked to be brother and sister.  The brother was older, with longish black hair, the sister considerably shorter, with matching, shoulder-length black hair.

A few minutes later, the pair had their packs tied up and ready to go.  After helping his sister onto her horse, the brother got onto his.  With a sharp slap on the shoulder and a yell, the two galloped away from their only home, the rain continuing to fall, steadily increasing in intensity.

By the time the siblings had barely left the town’s limits, the storm had come on full swing.  The wind howled, slapping their hair in their faces, blurring their vision.  The horses struggled to keep their footing in the muddy road while trying not to be blown away by the powerful gales of wind.  Faintly, a few yards ahead of them, the sister spotted a run down, abandoned shack off the side of the road.  She yelled to her brother, motioning for him to follow her.  They slowly made their way to the shack, hoping to wait out the strongest part of the storm.  Once there, the pair went inside, horses and all.  The four huddled together, shivering in their drenched clothes and blankets, praying that they would all manage to get to higher ground before their time was up.

i find it to be kinda corny and crummy and in need of fixing.
but that's ok. =]

well, until the next idea hits,
