See, I think I've finally come full circle. Obviously we are coming at things from totally different points of view (since I've been actively involved in fandom since 1995 and I know you generally dislike fanfiction), but I had spent a lot of the past year or so full of vitriol about how stupid fandom was, and when I unexpectedly got totally hooked on a new game series because I was going mad with fannish love for the two main characters, I figured I'd HATE the fandom, because the more I enjoy the canon interaction between characters, the more my reaction to the fanfiction is usually a violent YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

...only I didn't. Instead, I think it's HILARIOUS. There are people half my age writing bad stories about cliches that are OLDER THAN ME. They're still doing it wrong, but it is the funniest thing I've seen in fandom in years.
