BAD KUPO!

Kupo sucks.

And not even because of the heartburn, sore areas you don't even want to know about, huge angry red stretch marks, and body hair that would make a yeti proud...

But I swear he's having a bad effect on my already poor dietary habits.

I actually wanted McDonald's today. And I had it, too. I think it's the third or fourth time since I ( Read more... )

Actually I've been meaning to ask, are boys usually born lighter than girls? I'm curious because I've noticed this trend among babies around me. I don't know if it's typical though.

Boys are supposed to be bigger, with 300-400g and 2 to 4 cm. But that doesn't mean anything of course, it depends more on the time you give birth, I think. (my boy was 2 weeks early, and my girl 5 days late, so she was heavier with 400 g, same length though)

I actually looked it up after talking to the midwife and I found this site... it's Danish, though, so you might not get much from it if I should link it. Anyway, it takes 608 Danish boy babies and 612 Danish girl babies and at newborn for these the demographics were:

girl:
smallest: 550g, 28cm
biggest: 6100g, 63cm
average: 3450g, 51cm

boy:
smallest: 600g, 32cm
biggest: 6000g, 61cm
average: 3600g, 52cm

Naturally, 1220 babies isn't all that much to go by but it supports that on average boys are a little bit bigger, although funny enough, the biggest girl is bigger than the biggest boy. That could be coincidental, though, and, even so, at just one month old the girl was 6500g where the boy was 7200g, so he soon overtook her.

(Source: here if you want to try and decipher the Danish yourself)

I don't think you need to worry that much about obese now. My niece gained 22 kg, the moment she found out she was pregnant she had an excuse to eat anything she wanted: 2 l coca cola a day, 4 times a week deep fried food... Her child is 4 years now, and a normal (even e bit skinny, but healthy) girl. The extra pounds are still hanging on mums hips.

I haven't really gained that much, actually. I'm very glad about that. Just about 6kg or so (which is enough for me because I don't need to build fat deposits). I TRY not to be unhealthy, but I've always been very unhealthy and it's just so hard not to be. I think, actually, that that's why I haven't gained a lot of weight - my body is used to it. If that makes any sense to you.

Poor Kupo, getting all the blame. ;)

I think I was about seven pounds when born, so that sounds about right.

Yeah I usually go by one pound ~500g, but I think in reality it's a little less... like 450g or something O.o ... yeah, onlineconversion.com says it's "1 lb, lbs = 453.592 37 gram" I guess that means that she estimates he'll be around 8lbs. Still not too bad, though. I knew someone who had 13lbs babies. :S

Too big! Too big!

My sis-in-law is due Nov. 5th, but they're going to induce labor a week or two early because she's gigantic. You'd think she was having twins. Tall genes, I tell ya.
