And it's because of something you'd never guess.

It's an advertisement. From TV. For clothes!

This brand is super comfy, I've own trousers from them for years, and now... I want to buy more stuff from them. Because they actually have an ad on TV! Showing ladies like me in a positive, fun, sexy, cute light! OMG ( Read more... )

I love when stores acknowledge that everyone wants to be cute no matter their size. Here in California, we have a lot of plus size stores but for some reason so many of them pretty much just sell these bland tent like outfits. There's only one store I've seen with genuinely fashionable clothing, this great store called Torrid. Well, I guess lane Bryant has some cute clothes as well.

It's just about the same here. Even in the shop where I got my Zizzi trousers, I find most of the clothes ugly and overpriced. Fortunately for me (I suppose) I don't need to shop there exclusively, so I can pick and choose between the lower plus size sizes (got myself a lovely wool cardigan and a sparkly shirt in one this winter) and upper "regular" sizes (yoga trousers for use on the treadmill - was so surprised about that one cuz fat thighs - and some wayyyy discounted nicer shirts were both found in H&M around the same time).

It's just... really, really, really gratifying to see women that are not stick figures in an ad for clothes - any clothes! I mean, H&M may actually carry my size for some things (which is also gratifying because some shops don't and will give me weird looks for even thinking they might) but they'd never show a woman my size wearing them in their ads!

You know I was just thinking about this topic yesterday because I was trolling you tube looking for vids on my new favorite ship (Jess and nick from new girl) and I ran into some awesome vids on this German/Danish/Swedish (not sure which) show called doctors diary. And the main character was this woman who looked like a woman! She had hips! And a butt! And you never see that in America. Or if you do she's just the best friend who never get the gorgeous doctor guy ( this guy really was gorgeous. I wish I understood the language because the show looked awesome)

IDK if it's Danish. Doesn't sound familiar, though. But have you seen Drop Dead Diva (American)? I only have the first 2 seasons on Netflix so IDK if she gets her love interest or he forever treats her as only a BFF, but it's about this skinny model who dies and then due to shenanigans ends up in the body of a plus size lawyer, working together with the guy she'd been dating before her accident.

I think it treats a lot of body image issues and how plus sized women are treated in today's society with great sensitivity, although it uses the whole "skinny, pretty and kinda stupid/shallow" vs "fat and clever" trope. There's also a beautiful and clever lawyer, I suppose, so there's that. And IDK the name of the plus sized actor who plays the main character, but IMO she's extremely pretty.

its apparently German-Austrian: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0954636/ & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor%27s_Diary.
This is the mai ncharacter: http://www.monstersandcritics.de/downloads/downloads/articles2/86615/article_images/image5_1213005262.jpg although all the pictures I found of her NOT from that show specifically, she seems to be more skinny.

The woman in New Tricks (IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0362357/) a British crime-solving kind of series also looks fairly pretty-yet-normal-and-not-far-too-young. But the crowd for that one may also be older. I enjoy it sometimes, though.
