Wahhh.
Sometimes I really hate my body.
I haven't felt well the past three days. It keeps getting progressively worse. The plan for today is to eat nothing but chicken soup, drink lots of liquids, and go to bed early. I have already slept for most of today (I was woken up at 2, managed to crawl out of bed an hour later), but I don't think sleeping is going to be a problem. :-) Because I can't miss work any more. I am already going in on Saturday to make up for some of the lost time.
In other news, a random guy from one of the LJ communities I frequent has introduced me to an amazing musical. It's called Feeling Electric, and I honestly haven't been able to stop listening to it ever since I first got my hands on it. I haven't experienced this much love for a musical since the first time I heard RENT about eight years ago.
HISTORY and PLOT SUMMARY from
wikipedia:
Feeling Electric was written by Brian Yorkey (Book and Lyrics) and Tom Kitt (Music), winners of the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation grant, and originally debuted in a 2002 workshop at the Cutting Room, starring Norbert Leo Butz (RENT, Thou Shalt Not, Wicked) as Dan Brown and Sherie Rene Scott (RENT, Grease, Aida) as Diana. The second workshop was in 2005 at the Barrow Group Arts Center, which featured Amy Spanger as Diana, Joe Cassidy as Dan, and Anthony Rapp as Dr. Madden. Although no official recordings of the musical exist, it has gleaned a small cult following from bootleg recordings of both performances.
The story revolves around Diana Brown, a young mother from Seattle who suffers from schizoaffective disorder, with frequent manic and depressive episodes and hallucinations. She is cared for by her husband, Dan, but as her depression and hallucinations get worse, she begins to see a new psychiatrist, Dr. Madden. But her hallucinations persist, and she becomes increasingly suicidal, which leads to her being treated with electroconvulsive therapy. The play also addresses such issues as child loss, suicide, drug abuse, and ethics in modern psychiatry.
I have the version with Anthony Rapp. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll give you the links to get it. :-D
