Man oh man do I wish it was still the weekend. Or that today was friday and I was headed home for another great weekend. Yeah yeah, that sounds much better. Friday we played golf, it was cold and windy, so no one was on the course. It was actually a ton of fun, we were being silly and goofy and losing balls all over the place. Continuing our goofy trend we decided that since we were adults, we could eat greasy appetizers and big beers for dinner. So it was off to The Outback, so we could eat cheese fries, bloomin' onions, and coconut shrimp with Sam Summer Ale. Mmm,delicous :)
Saturday morning we were going to go to Watkin's Glen to hike the gorge, but I was still chilly from being in the cold and wind the night before. We headed to the farmer's market instead, and Tucker was amazed at the amount of food we bought for $20. 3 quarts of strawberries, 1/2 bushel of apples, 1/2 bushel of oranges, pint of blueberries, 2 lbs tomatoes, 1 lb green beans, 4 heads of garlic, 1 lb of cherries, bread and cookies from the Amish place, and a cold pint of fresh apple cider. It seems like there was more, but I can't remember what it was now. After that we went home and napped the afternoon away. It was so so so very nice, and I want that time back to do it all over again. After our nap was grill time with some more beers and more relaxing.
Yesterday morning we woke up pretty early and headed to Watkin's Glen for hiking. We got there and walked around the town, looking in all the shops and window shopping, stopped for a quick lunch and then it was off to the park. We headed in and started at the bottom of the trail. You can avoid paying the state park fee as we found out by accident. There's tons of parking on the street in front of the entrance. You can park there and walk in for free. But anyway, the gorge trail is only 1.5 miles long, but it's about 1.25 miles of stairs, 832 stairs to be exact. There is ~500 foot elevation change, which if my calculations are correct means that we climed the equivalent of a 50 story tall building. And then we went back down them. It was a fun time, and quite the calf / bum workout. Above all, it was just nice to be outside.
Now I'm just feeling cruddy and wanting to be back at home with my boy. Or planting stuff for my garden, or mowing the lawn, or walking the dog. Really, anything other than work. If you love me weekend, you'll come back soon.
