* Not much over the last week or so. Been busy with this and that, writing, working, staying warm.
* Congratulations to my friends whose comic works have been announced:
Ande Parks is writing the new Kato title for Dynamite and
Jai Nitz is writing the new old Kato origin for Dynamite. Some very cool stuff there to come. My friend
Bobby Nash has quite a bit of comic work coming out, too. Nicely done, guys!
* You know who
Kato is don't you? The Green Hornet's sidekick. Played by Bruce Lee on TV back in the old days.
* The debate over NASA's budget and future is maddening. Senators and Congressfolk who vow to fight any budget increases with 'every ounce' of whatever really just don't get the importance of the space program. Where else are huge leaps in technology made? On the other side of the coin, NASA itself is lousy at telling the world why they need money to continue their work. Politicians are much better storytellers than scientists, I understand, but that doesn't mean that the things that NASA does are unimportant. NASA needs a communicable vision (Mission: Mars is good) and Congress needs to lead that charge once the vision is up and running. Right now the American government is far too REactive than PROactive.
* This has led me to thoughts on the nature of America today and how if one is not EXTREME one is just not LIVING. This Madison Avenue idea is so pervasive that it's debilitating the entire country and perhaps the world. Remember when there was a backlash against the idealized figures of women because of advertising? Oh, wait, it's still there. Just so it's been said out loud, it's okay to think ahead and to live a reasonable life. One does not need to be a Mountain Dew-drinking, motocross/skater/barefoot marathoner to live a good life. Living 'in the moment' to the detriment of all else is not good for you.
* Had a very bizarre dream last night that involves a
local landmark being buried and the ground around it re-sodded. I'm not sure what it means, but all I could see was the top of the train. There were also two more engines of different sizes in the park, also buried near to the top. Just weird. I don't wonder what it means, only note it for later use.
* Currently reading Stephen King's UNDER THE DOME and beyond just being typically-good King work, it's a great study in characterization so far. He can make you understand characters in just a few words. Brilliant writing at the beginning here, about 200 or so pages in.
