Charlie, our 6-year-old springer mix, has been making "I'm in pain" yipping noises for the past couple of days, generally when changing position - going from sitting to standing, for example - and at occasional other times as well. He's been hesitant on the stairs as well, and hasn't wanted to jump up on or off the bed, which is pretty unusual for him.
So,
glynhogen took him to the vet this morning, and she didn't fine anything specifically wrong with him. Of course he didn't do any yipping at the vet, our stoic little boy, so they are running some tests, and we'll know more on Monday. She thinks it could be Lyme's, which is very treatable in dogs. Kiko has tested positive for Lyme's before but never exhibited any symptoms. Seems not unlikely; we live in a very tick-intensive area, and despite the tick prevention they are both on, we find a few attached or crawling brown ticks (not deer ticks, which we'd never find in a million years) on each dog periodically.
