Philip started a nice trend in his LJ, and I've been thinking a lot about the questions that he's raised. So from here on out, my LJ is going to still contain some random shit from my skull, but will be primarily dedicated to important concepts that I want my friends to discuss, learn, and discover all there is to find out based upon our little ( Read more... )

Once again, i'm not trying to offend anyone, but can you seriously say that you can fully put your faith into something that has no physical evidence, nothing you can put your finger on, nothing you have truly expirenced, nothing ANYONE has expirenced but a bit of luck and some embellishment? Can you truly say that you are right? that you see the light? even though if you were born to a different faith you would be sure you see the light there too? Would you walk off a ledge without looking down first?
THAT is what people need to do! Look down! See where you're falling! Take a step back and look at the situation. Don't be led by blind faith, make your own decisions. I'm not saying what is right and what is wrong, i'm just echoing the words of a great man when i say, BE YOUR OWN MAN!

Everyone follows something, whether it be the wisdom of Jesus, or the wisdom of an unnamed wise man.

No one is apparently their own man, are they? ;)

The point I would like to stress, is not the fact that people don't follow anything. I have clearly stated that through my argument above, and it is even followed up with the fact that I say I am "echoing" the words of Thoreau when I say, "Be your own man." Everyone obviously believes in something, because if they didn't, people wouldn't have anything to live for. What I am saying is, how do people blindly put their faith into something that has NO proof and NO evidence? (rhetorical of course, unless you can enlighten me) My view is that a person should base their morals and beliefs not off of a single doctrine at all, but off of their own personal view of what they believe is right and wrong. Sinning, for example, does not fit into my state of mind, in the way that if i want to do something, and it fits in with my personal morals, then its not wrong. If i don't want to do it, then i won't. there is no sin for me.

Feel free to read my entire post (at the bottom of the page), but here is a small excerpt for your reading pleasure:

You've got to understand, I mean - I know you understand - and I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but you would at least agree that I fit well out of the "stereotypical" Christian. I'm not ignorant, I would like to think. I'd also like to think that I've never persecuted anyone for their beliefs, Christian or otherwise. And... I hate to say this, cause it's so arrogant to say- but I'm intelligent. You know that usually the "intelligent" kids are usually the ones to eschew religion. Honors dorm at UF last year- case in point. But I digress ( ... )
