Square Enix’ failure to localize the original Final Fantasy Type-0 was a huge mistake (one of the many mistakes the company’s made in recent years). But after several years of waiting and disappointment on fans’ behalves, it seems Square Enix will finally send Type-0 overseas via an HD edition for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
I’m thrilled this is happening. It proves Square Enix is listening to fans, and this HD enhancement almost feels like an apology of sorts to make up for the years we English players waited.
Again, I’m happy. However, I’m not necessarily “jumping for joy” over this news, either. For one thing, I’m not about to fork over $400+ for a new PS4/Xbox One so I can play a video game that should have been localized three years ago on PlayStation Portable.
Mark my words, I will make Type-0 HD part of my collection someday, but the expense of a PS4/Xbox One isn’t in my cards right now (and BTW, the same applies to Final Fantasy XV). The way I see it, Square Enix made us overseas gamers wait an extra 3+ years for Type-0, well, I guess I can wait a little longer…and Square Enix can wait a little longer for my money, too.
On a site note, I find it rather amusing how this news of Type-0 HD kinda’ coincides with the upcoming release of the fan translation of Type-0’s PSP edition this August. *suspiciously smirks* Rather convenient on Square’s part, don’t you think?
But all the same, I’ll give Square Enix credit where it’s due. At least they are attempting to clean up the mess they’ve made of their Final Fantasy flagship. I implore you, Square. Keep it up! Make this classic series shine once more! It’s about time!
