Nekkid, I just got my *2006* Tax Refund. Apparently, back in 2006 I finished my taxes, put them in an envelope, and left them on my desk. For a year. After filing for 2007, I started getting threatened by the IRS. Dropping the envelope in the mail didn't help, and they kept threatening. The axe suggestion is a good idea. Boy do we have those around.

With a longsword, I'm trying to strike a balance between a weapon that "works" (symbolically and physically) for ritual, that I can use for exercise (where I'd rather have a big and heavy two-handed sword), where the home defense sort of comes out bonus. I find that choice requires the most compromise for everything.

I'm a big fan of a collapsible baton (Asp being the common brand), but that's just because I have a thing for being militaristic.

A friend of mine used to work weekend night shifts as security for a 7-11. In a bad part of town. Due to legal stuff they weren't allowed to carry weapons. He has a bizarre affinity for a 18-24" length of rebar for personal defense :) I guess we could call it a Redneck Katana to borrow the Snow Crash term.

Rebar... katana... oddly, I can see that. Must admit though, if I ever get to where I can afford a long blade, I'll be heading after this one: http://bugei.com/product_345_detailed.htm

*worried look*

Blast. It appears the one with the balance I hunger for is... unavailable... Which will, admitedly, save me money I can't afford to spend on a weapon I'm not even remotely qualified to handle - but cor, if I ever can bloody afford it, I'll spend the required years to train up to being acceptable at it.

I'm a short blade vac, through and through - I'll probably never gain proper long blade skill - but the bugei blades make me want to try.
