Jooyeon was walking towards the gym to meet up with the others when she got pulled into one of the empty classrooms so quickly and so harshly.
“Well well if it isn’t Park Jooyeon.” Eunhye crossed her arms on her chest, an annoyed look on her face.
Jooyeon rubbed her arm, where she was grabbed so forcefully. “What do you want?”
“I really hate it when I’m lied to,” Eunhye declared. “I hate being made into a fool.”
“What are you talking about?” Jooyeon asked, feeling confused and irritated at the same time.
“When I told you that I would keep my word when you said you would stay away from Donghae and the others, I meant it,” Eunhye nearly yelled. “But I also meant it when I said I’d destroy you if you broke the deal.”
“I really don’t know what you’re talking about,” Jooyeon argued. “But aren’t you doing that now anyway? Wasn’t that your plan when you brought Jungsoo here?”
Eunhye snickered. “I see you’re not so brainless after all.” She eyed the other girl fiercely. “I brought him here because he wants you, for a reason that I can’t fathom, and because I want you to stay away from my friends!”
“They’re not your friends,” Jooyeon shot back, her patience pushed to the limit. She really didn’t feel like backing down this time. “In case you haven’t noticed, they don’t like you,” she strongly retorted.
Eunhye’s slap on Jooyeon’s face echoed loudly across the room. Jooyeon stumbled at the force of it, her hand flying to her throbbing cheek.
“I was going to get Hyukjae back. We were going to get back together until you came along,” Eunhye shrieked.
“I really don’t know what I have to do with that,” Jooyeon snapped, keeping her tears at bay at the pain of the slap. “We’re not together!”
“It’s too late now,” Eunhye responded in a low and dark voice. “You’re going to regret this. I promise you.”
Before Jooyeon could stop her and ask what she meant, Eunhye had fled from the room.

“What happened to you?” Jungsoo asked when he finally found Jooyeon hiding in the clinic. She had an ice pack on her cheek, which had a big purple bruise.
“Nothing,” Jooyeon uneventfully answered, slapping his arm away. She really wasn’t in the mood for his PDA at the moment. She wished he would go away.
This angered Jungsoo. He was trying to be concerned and this is what he’d get. “What’s wrong with you?” he snapped, keeping his voice low and grabbing her wrist. When he’d made sure no one was around, he continued, “May I remind you of our deal. I’m sure you don’t want to let your precious boyfriend… Donghae, is it?” She looked at him with wide, fearful eyes. He smirked. “That’s right. I’m sure you don’t want him to know what kind of girl you used to be.” He slid a hand down her waist to her leg.
She slapped his hand away. “Stop it,” she hissed.
He smirked. “Still feisty, I see. Well then, you’d better fix that face of yours because I really don’t want you hanging out with me looking like that.”
“I don’t want to hang out with you,” she reminded him heavily, wincing at the pain on her cheek.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” he silkily replied, snickering. “There’s nothing you can do, though.” He shrugged. “It’s either that or they all find out what a slut you are.”
Jooyeon flinched at the harsh adjective. It brought fresh tears to her eyes.
“We’re clear then,” he went on as if he didn’t say anything out of the ordinary. “See you in class.”
With a stolen kiss on her other cheek, he left the clinic.

“Oh my go-.”
Jooyeon covered Tiffany’s mouth before she could go and broadcast her injury to the world. She pulled her friend into an empty classroom and shut the door behind her.
“Joo, what happened to your face?” Tiffany asked when she was allowed to speak again.
“Is it that bad?” Jooyeon asked worriedly. She got the mirror that Tiffany handed her and inspected her face. She took a deep breath and gave the mirror back to her. “Great. I have a bruise as a face.”
“Will you explain to me how this happened?” Tiffany demanded in concern. The bruise was right smack on her left cheek. It was very worrisome, especially since Jooyeon wasn’t the type to be involved in anything physical, even if she played sports.
“I wasn’t looking and hit myself on a pole,” Jooyeon lied. She was wondering how she would be able to cover it up without being too obvious.
“Really,” Tiffany replied disbelievingly. “You expect me to believe that?”
“No, but you should because that’s the reason I’m going to give everyone,” Jooyeon said. “Hey,” she went on, noticing that Tiffany was wearing a pink hoodie. It would be perfect for covering her bruise. “Do you think I could borrow your sweater?”
“Why?” Tiffany wanted to know. But she took it off and handed it to her.
Jooyeon removed her own cardigan and traded with her. She smoothed her hair down to the sides of her face and lifted the hood up to cover her head. “Is it still noticeable?”
“I really don’t know how you expect to keep that from everyone,” Tiffany pointed out, looking amused.
“Well you’ll just have to help me then,” Jooyeon suggested, smiling sweetly at her. “We’re friends, right?”
Tiffany crossed her arms on her chest. “I’ll help you.” Jooyeon brightened up at this. “On one condition,” Tiffany finished. “Tell me what happened.”
Jooyeon sighed. “I think I can hide it by myself. Thanks for the sweater!” She opened the door and walked out.
Tiffany followed Jooyeon out of the school building. She was sure that no one was going to buy her excuse of hitting a pole just as she was sure that everyone was going to notice the bruise. Even with her hair on her face and the hoodie, it was still visible.
When they were almost at the gate, Jooyeon turned to Tiffany in panic. The boys were all there with Taeyeon. Tiffany merely smiled at her and walked over to Kangin. Soon enough, they all saw Jooyeon.
“Hey!” Donghae greeted her, putting an arm around her shoulders. They had been definitely closer since that night. “We’re thinking of grabbing something to eat and then crash at Hyukjae’s.”
“I think I’ll just go home,” Jooyeon said, keeping her head bowed. “See you.”
“Hey, what’s wrong with your cheek?” Kyuhyun suddenly asked, his hand suddenly grabbing hers to keep her from leaving.
Before Jooyeon could deny it, Heechul had pulled her hood down, while Shindong pulled her hair back. There were gasps everywhere.
“Jooyeon-ah, what happened?” Taeyeon demanded, looking at the bruise closely.
“Nothing,” Jooyeon answered, lifting her hood back up. Tiffany raised her eyebrows at her, seemingly telling her I told you so.
“Is Jungsoo responsible for this?” Hyukjae said, suddenly speaking up. He looked angry.
“No,” Jooyeon said at once, shaking her head. “It wasn’t him.”
“So who was it?” Kyuhyun asked. When Jooyeon looked at him, he continued, “You said it wasn’t Jungsoo. Then who was it?”

Hyukjae scanned the cafeteria, his fists clenched tightly. His eyes narrowed as soon as he saw who he was looking for. Striding towards his destination with purpose, Heechul grabbed his arm, stopping him.
“Hyung, let me go,” Hyukjae muttered in a low voice.
“Don’t make a scene,” Heechul reminded him.
“Do appearances still matter to you at a time like this?” Hyukjae responded, his tone bordering on disrespectful.
Heechul glared at the younger and retorted, “I don’t. But no one is going to benefit from you getting angry in front of the whole school.” He let go of his arm. “But if you insist, go ahead. Let’s see what Jooyeon will say.”
The younger frowned at this and visibly calmed down. As soon as Jooyeon finally revealed who was the cause of her bruise, he didn’t think he’d ever felt so angry in his life. He rarely got worked up over something, but when he did, which was usually over something that really mattered, almost all hell broke loose. Jooyeon getting hurt like that from someone who had no right to just got his blood boiling. Donghae had to force him to jog around the field for nearly an hour before he managed to feel like he could go around without breaking anything.
Hyukjae took a deep breath. “Will you talk to her?” he pleaded.
Heechul walked towards Eunhye’s table without having to be told twice. He couldn’t imagine how his cousin, of all people, could do such a thing. As far as he knew, Jooyeon never did anything to her. Eunhye was really some piece of work, even resorting to physical violence.
“Oh oppa,” Eunhye greeted him, smiling brightly. Her friends respectfully bowed their heads at him, all grinning widely. Heechul was a popular upperclassman after all.
“Can I talk to you?” Heechul asked in a controlled tone.
“Sure, oppa,” she agreed, looking expectantly at him. “What about?”
“Outside,” he clarified, gesturing towards the doors.
Eunhye shrugged and stood up, following him out of the cafeteria and into the hallway. Hyukjae was waiting there, his back resting on the lockers. She looked at him curiously then at her cousin.
“What’s this about?” she wanted to know, hand on her hip.
“We know about that little slap that you gave Jooyeon,” Hyukjae informed her, finally lifting his eyes to meet hers.
Eunhye looked panicked for a second then she replaced the expression with a sneer. “Am I the one to blame for everything that happens to her? Really, that girl.”
“Are you denying it?” Hyukjae snarled, pushing himself off the lockers.
Eunhye knew better than to give an answer to that. It was obvious that Hyukjae was pushed to his limits and she knew all too well what happens if she said the wrong thing. Not that he would hit her-he never would hit a girl-but he became really scary.
“Why would you do that?” Heechul asked her, glancing at Hyukjae and taking over. He stared intently at his cousin, letting her know that he expected nothing but the truth.
“Why are you all defending her?” she spat. “It’s not like she’s anything special. She comes waltzing in here and suddenly everyone likes her. What do you guys see in her?”
“You’re treading a dangerous line here, Eunhye,” Hyukjae warned her.
“It’s you guys who are treading a dangerous line,” she shot back. “You don’t even know her that well. You don’t know what kind of girl she is. Just because she’s Taeyeon’s best friend doesn’t mean that she’s all that, too.”
Heechul looked confused. “What are you talking about?” Even Hyukjae looked at her at this.
“Now you’re curious. Now you ask,” she replied, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms on her chest. “You should do background checks on your friends, oppa. You don’t know where they’ve been. She deserves that slap. She’s deceived you all.”
“No one deserves violence,” Heechul corrected firmly. “Especially when a person hasn’t done physical harm to you.”
Hyukjae glared at Eunhye, which made her look ashamed even just a little bit. “You ever so much as lay a hand on her again…” he threatened. He glanced at Heechul then walked away.
When Hyukjae was out of earshot, Heechul turned to Eunhye. “What were you talking about, Eunhye? Do you know something about Jooyeon?” he demanded.
“Oh wouldn’t you like to know,” Eunhye said, smiling maliciously.
