may 10, 2010 was election day

yesterday was election day here in the Republic of the Philippines.  it's my second time to vote but it's the first time that an automatic election system was implemented.

since the voting area is in a public school just nearby, i wasn't in any rush or anything. anyway, decided to go with muy.  ooh! funny thing that happened- muy said she was coming over already with her brother and they were to pick me up and we'll go to the school together. so i saw their car waiting for me outside and i rode- and then kuya dino parked. :)) it was funny coz the distance to walk from my house to their car was further than the distance i rode with them. :)) sumakay pa ako, diba? just funny :)) haha!

anyway...

it took me 3 hours to line up and 5 minutes to vote! the lines were crazy! it's too bad that we dnt have any shots- we did not get to document it. but cmon, it is easy to imagine long lines under the scorching sun with people ready to explode already. it's really crazy!

though it did make me think- are these long lines because of the automation?

i'm not against the whole automation, it's just a bunch of  thoughts came to mind while waiting in a crowd full of sweaty (and stinky) people. heehee. i admit, i got stinky too! i was sweating like a pig under that sun!

and now, because of automated elections, we more or less know who will become our next president, vp, etc etc. and a lot are disappointed.  me? i don't know if i am. i don't think i'm as disappointed as the others who feel strongly about the elections. it's not that i don't care- because i do. i guess this feeling just came about when the candidates started running for their positions and i felt terrible because i think none of them are as competent. i mean, there's always something lacking right? people would say pwede na sana si *insert name here* but then *insert a problem here*. palaging may pagkukulang. but what can we expect? no one is perfect and we have to remember it's "we think" that they are not competent or they're lacking in some sense. so because i (or we) think that they're incapable of leading the country- i say it's high time i (we) just give them a chance to prove that what i (or we) think is not true and that they are very much capable of leading our country. just be open-minded about it.

so noynoy is leading the presidential race with binay as his vp. noynoy- what can i say about him. parang lahat, nasabi na eh. his competence has been questioned, his state of health, his achievements, his method of campaigning which was to always bring up his deceased father and mother.... and binay, apparently everyone knows about his unexplained wealth, his corruption, his evil doings...

and i guess i'd have to agree with those people and say that i think they can't do it. and we'll all just be in trouble if they are proclaimed as our leaders.

but then again, what do i know? i know nothing about leading a country or the kind of lives these people live. i may have heard about it but i haven't seen it with my own two eyes.

i guess all i'm trying to say is just for us to be optimistic and be open-minded. what can we do?  if these people win because they received the most votes (hopefully, legally), then so be it. i hope there won't be any more people power or revolutions or rallies or whatnot. give them a chance. and if they are as dirty as they are, i hope that with the power and the responsibility being vested on them- they decide to come out clean and show that they're serious about leading the country.

as of now, these results are just partial and unofficial? i mean there are still a lot of votes that have yet to be included and opponents might be able to catch up.

so let's just wait and see... :) hopefully, everything turns out well- no matter who wins. we did our part, let's give them a chance to do theirs and let's take it from there.
