Best Buy Woes

Feb 14, 2006 19:06

I went to Best Buy today to get a new monitor, had a bit of trouble getting help, but eventually got to the register with it. When I tried to use my atm card it was declined. Declined? I knew I had enough money so I ran my atm card again, this time as a credit card. Declined again.

So I went to the bank. It was 6:00pm so the guy didn't want to help me, but I convinced him because I wouldn't leave (go assertiveness!) to help me. He was completely clueless after looking at my account and seeing I had plenty of money in my account. I still wouldn't leave, because that didn't help my problem. Eventually a manager type took the card and looked up the transaction. The bank had a record of both attempts and showed that the second request was not declined, it was accepted. I told her that wasn't enough to get them to give it to me, could I bring back some proof? So she signed the printout and gave her work number and her cell number so they could call her if they didn't believe me.

So back to Best Buy. I told them the credit card transaction did go through and they owed me a monitor. No such luck. An hour of polite arguing and waiting resulted in them not being able to find the transaction in the records made by their register. I finally find out that they can't even get the information from their computers until their nightly reconciliation.

I had the proof it went through, I had the manager from my bank telling them it went through, but they still wouldn't let me have the monitor until they could see the evidence of my account being debited by their machines, likely tonight, but whenever.

So now I don't have the damn monitor and I can't get one til this is resolved. Ugh. Anyone know how long they have to accept the payment after an authorization request?
