Tech School, Facebook and San Antonio

Wrapped up a fairly busy week...

Getting into the school "schedule" slowly. I'm grasping the material pretty good so far. I guess it helps working with the ops world so much being a radio operator and really wanting this job. I'm going to do everything in my power to make it through all these schools with the best grade I can get. From here on out, it's 85% or better. That's how they roll in the flying world. They need us to know our shit back and forth. Lives and aircraft depend on it. I just hope I can keep up the determination to do well and the feeling of wanting to do this for the rest of my Air Force career. Because off my rank and time in service, I get to be the class leader. I  love baby-sitting! Just kidding. It's not that bad, I get a lot of "yes, ma'am." I know they are supposed to say that to me, but I'm not used to it. It's been 9 years since I've been around the "newbie" Air Force kids. And back then, I was the one saying "yes sir/ma'am" being the "newbie." In a nutshell, it'll be a long time before I'm fully qualified to do my new job. At least another year or so. I am hoping that I end up being stationed back @ Hurlburt on the AC-130U gunships. It's the airframe I've wanted since I found out about 1A4. None of the kids in class knew what they were, now all of them want to end up on them! I laugh, but deep down inside, I don't want them to get that opportunity. I have worked a long fucking time to get to this school and possibly that assignment, and they get it coming out of basic training?!  I know that is not a good mindset to have, but that is how it is. Of course, the needs of the AF come first, and where they need me, they'll put me. I get to fill out a assignment/airframe "dreamsheet" in the first week of my next course. Guess what'll be the #1 pick? :) I can also end up in Oklahoma @ Tinker AFB or in Georgia @ Robins AFB.

I finally registered on Facebook. Took me a while. I usually don't like these sites, but I can keep in touch w/old classmates from high school and AF people I have worked with in the past a lot easier on FB that Myspace. I don't even go to my Myspace page anymore. If you really want to see it, just look up Rebecca Dahms, and the profile pic is me w/Oakley sunglasses on drinking a Bud Light. Even my sister registered. In fact, she is the one who convinced me to sign up. I'm slowly "friending" everyone I know and uploading pics.

Spent a chunk of the day exploring the Riverwalk in San Antonio today. I didn't get lost driving to and from either. I decided to take the long way in and out of town, instead of the interstate. Didn't spend too much $$$ either. Only one pair of shoes :) Found the Pat O'Brien's too. I need to go back and get the glasses that my drinks are served in. They always put the name of the city on the hurricane glass. I have several from New Orleans and Destin, now I get to add to my collection. Ate lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe, the same one I ate at when I graduated basic training in 2000. Of course my Mother wants me to take a ton of pics and send them to her. I'm hoping her and my Dad can make it down here for my graduation in November. I think my Dad would really love seeing the base and the city. He doesn't travel anywhere unless it has something to do with trains. It drives my Mother up the wall.

I think that's it for now. Getting ready for my first test that counts this upcoming Tuesday. Lots of studying in the next couple of days. Especially tomorrow. And I have to do laundry.
