Tonight's dinner was impromptu sashimi bowls. Jeff took pictures of the results. SO DELICIOUS! We had sushi rice on bottom, then raw veggies (cucumbers, carrots, and yellow bell peppers) in the middle, topped with seared tuna, grilled tofu, and grilled shrimp. For drinks, we opened the bottle of Pinot Noir my dad bought us for Christmas. The wine plus amazing food has made me sooo sleepy.
We've made sushi a few times before this. Our conclusion is that, at least where we live, actual sushi is best left to the restaurants. Seared tuna, on the other hand, is très delicieux. We still love sushi rice though. It's tossed with a dressing made with sugar, rice vinegar, and salt. Kinda smelly on its own, but when combined with rice, it's very satisfying. The sashimi bowl was a good compromise.
