Oz/Death Valley

I watched the pilot for Oz tonight. Though I'm intrigued by the concept, I don't think I'll be continuing. It's very violent.

Death Valley was fantastic. I may actually post pictures! We ate lots of tasty food, like homemade chili, corn on the cob, pancakes, and quesadillas. Only one of our meals came out of a bag. :) We camped at Wildrose, which is at about 5,000 feet. It's on the outskirts of the park. We did some hiking. Explored a lot in a friend's Suburban. There was a cool old mining camp that was in pretty good shape considering it was about 100 years old. We ate lunch on Saturday at Aguereberry Point, which is at about 6,300 feet. We had a beautiful view of the valley below, including Badwater and Furnace Creek.

Death Valley astounds and depresses me. There are parts that are so desolate, so bleak. Yet the wide open spaces, the incredible star display at night, and the stillness in the air are exciting. While at Aguereberry, we saw all the way to Mt. Charleston in Nevada, 80 miles away! The perspective you get on a clear day is amazing.
