My mom gave me a Border's gift card that she hadn't used yet. I spent at least 30 minutes in the comic book section trying to decide what to get. So many looked good! Border's had a fairly decent selection too. I considered titles such as 1001 Nights of Snowfall, Endless Nights, Pride of Baghad and the Buffy comics.
I've read 1001 Nights of Snowfall. It has a beautiful story about Flycatcher, which is apparently Mark Buckingham's favorite character. I have yet to read volumes 10 and 11 of Fables, but I hear that Flycatcher gets very awesome. I read a story or two from Endless Nights. Really, I think I would buy it for Delirium's story alone. I always found her dialogue to be beautiful, both in what she says and the way Todd Klein lettered it, and I love that she used to be Delight. Brian K. Vaughn is of course a fantastic author. I haven't finished all of Y: The Last Man, and I haven't read any of Ex Machina or Runaways, the X-Men series he did. Pride of Baghad is supposed to be lovely. The Buffy comics look a lot of fun. However, each volume is so small that at the moment, they aren't worth buying. I seriously doubt my local library has them, so for now I guess I will just read them at random bookstores.
In the end, I walked out with The Watchmen, by Alan Moore. I read it a few years ago. The plot is very dense, which is typical of Moore in my opinion. However, that made it very hard for me to read! Watchmen in particular has a lot of small panels with lots of dialogue. Dense in design as well! With the movie coming out, I thought I would brush up on the canon so that I can compare the two more effectively. I am skeptical, not gonna lie. But the trailer does look awesome, so I shall reserve harsh judgment till I see it. ;)
