Look at us lying here, dreaming, pretending...

This has been a very interesting week... I haven't slept much, been very busy and have had drama. Wah. I think the drama is almost gone, though. I hope it will be gone.

I'm on the train, going by the Pacific Ocean. It looks beautiful today. The ocean always looks lovely, for the most part, but today, the sky is clear and it is sunny. I love taking the train down to San Diego. One of the these days, I am going to get off at one of the two San Juan Capistrano stations and just relax. It's very soothing. There are a ton of seagulls... that's weird lol. I just saw at least a ten foot long string of them sitting on the shore.

The Shawl just started rehearsals. It's going well! Jim is a fun director so far. I actually get to do things with the actors. It's different, but a welcomed change from sitting and watching. David Mamet, the author of the play, is definitely interesting. This is the only piece of his I've read. Jim has read us stuff from True and False, a Mamet book with essays on acting/theatre in it. Mamet is anti-Early-Stanislavski (I don't think I spelt that right...).

My new roomie is soooo awesome. I thought I wouldn't like rooming with a drama major, but now, fun people actually hang out at my house! It's a new thing for me. Two nights ago, Alex came over after rehearsal (he's in The Shawl as John). He stayed for about two hours, and we all just talk. Alex did some hilarious vaudeville impressions. I missed History of Musical Theatre on Tuesday because I was tired, and apparently missed an amusing video. There's one number where a man comes out on the stage, and starts dance walking in a line across the stage. He sings "Oh, my wife loves her-," contorts his body, puts his hands in a diabollically evil position and finishes with "Frank Furter Sandviches! Frank Futer Sandviches!" It's a hilarious sight.

I'm taking an upper division lighitng class this quarter on composition. I had my first presentation yesterday. My lights were great. The Grad TA, who is AMAZING, said it looked beautiful. I just didn't connect it as well to my concept/play. We also had to use music with it. This isn't a bad start, considering I'm trying to work on concision and clarity of ideas in that class. Next presentation will be better in this regard. I took notes, so I won't forget this stuff lol. But yeah, the actual lights part was the most nerve-wracking. I've only taking one lighting class in the past. Lighting, in high school, was very confusing to me. My best friend, Carrie, was a lighting designer goddess. She didn't teach me anything lol. I'm hoping to be less overwhelmed by light at the end of this quarter.

Lastly, I am on a MAJOR Last Five Years kick. This musical is speaking to me in ways I haven't noticed before. I love songs/albums that do that, that grow with you as you experience new things in life.
