Fandom: Artemis Fowl
Pairing: Artemis Fowl/Holly Short
Challenge: 1sentence
Rating: PG-13
01 Comfort
Artemis couldn’t remember anyone other than Holly letting him cry on their shoulder; then again, she was the only one he’d trusted enough to attempt to do so.
02 Kiss
When your girlfriend is a fairy and therefore three feet shorter than you, kissing her while both of you are standing up is a logistical nightmare, no matter how smart you are.
03 Soft
Artemis realised when he bought Holly a kitten for her birthday that he’d gone soft.
04 Pain
Holly spent seven hours cursing the day she ever let Artemis near her; for once in his life Artemis didn’t retort and just hoped that his hand wouldn’t be too broken when he finally got to meet his firstborn child.
05 Potatoes
Holly could never see the difference between sliced fried potatoes and chips, but Artemis always maintained that they were completely different foodstuffs because chips really didn’t have any class at all.
06 Rain
Artemis thought that Holly had never looked as beautiful as now, as she stood outside in the pouring rain with her hair soaked and her feet glistening with water droplets.
07 Chocolate
Although Artemis knew everything, Holly certainly knew more about the more - interesting - ways to eat chocolate, and proceeded to show him.
08 Happiness
Sometimes Holly would wake up before Artemis and watch the look of joy spread across his face as he woke up with her by his side.
09 Telephone
Holly had given Artemis a fairy communicator device so they could keep in touch, but it wasn’t enough.
10 Ears
Artemis learned quickly to exploit the fact that Holly’s pointy ears were much more sensitive than human ones.
11 Name
It was only after fourteen years of knowing each other that Artemis and Holly realised that they didn’t know each other’s middle name.
12 Sensual
Artemis had only bought Holly a sexy nightdress for a joke, but Holly found herself slipping into the soft silk whenever she could.
13 Death
Holly would outlive Artemis by a few hundred years; it was the one thing he tried not to think about.
14 Sex
The first time Artemis Fowl saw Holly’s cherubic lips she was crumpled unconscious on the ground because he’d told Butler to hit her with a sedation dart - he certainly never expected the use she’d put that mouth to years later.
15 Touch
Being a cold and emotionless specimen of the human race, Artemis was somewhat surprised by the butterflies in his stomach evoked simply by Holly punching his arm.
16 Weakness
Artemis berates himself every day for falling in love with Holly, because a criminal mastermind can’t afford to have a weakness.
17 Tears
Artemis Fowl does not feel guilty, but he’s never felt as awful as when tears run freely down Holly’s face because of him.
18 Speed
Foaly asked Holly what she’d been taking when she confessed to him that she’d kissed Artemis Fowl.
19 Wind
It would have been a romantic moment onboard the shuttle, but Commander Root’s fondness for baked beans put a stop to that.
20 Freedom.
Holly cries every day because she isn’t free to love him; she laughs every day because she does anyway.
21 Life
Without someone to love from afar because all his Holly memories were wiped, Artemis had nothing to live for - maybe that was why he returned to his life of crime.
22 Jealousy
Artemis hated hearing about Trouble Kelp because although he wanted Holly to be happy, he wanted her to be happy with him.
23 Hands
Artemis’ hands were elegant pianist’s hands, but when he traced his fingers lightly over Holly’s body they played her as well as any piano.
24 Taste
Artemis thought it was a nice idea to cook Holly a romantic dinner - it was a pity that he couldn’t tell the difference between sugar and salt.
25 Devotion
When Holly got sick and she’d forgotten to do the Ritual so she couldn’t heal herself, Artemis decided that no matter how devoted to her he was, he’d get Juliet to cook the chicken soup - he didn’t want to end up poisoning Holly.
26 Forever
Holly knew that Artemis wouldn’t live forever, but the memories of their love would always be in her heart.
27 Blood
Artemis wasn’t squeamish, but the memory of the blood covering Holly’s hand when her finger got cut off always made him shudder.
28 Sickness
A perk of being married to Holly was that Artemis never caught colds - Holly’s magic always worked wonders on any type of illness he encountered.
29 Melody
Holly had inherited from her grandfather the habit of singing love songs, and the look on Artemis’ face when she told him that her grandfather was Cupid never failed to make her laugh.
30 Star
It was tacky and common and Artemis couldn’t believe he was saying it when he told Holly ‘you’re a star’.
31 Home
If someone had told Holly when she was imprisoned in a cell in Fowl Manor that ten years later she’d call this place a second home and she’d be married to her human kidnapper, she’d have informed them that a winged pig was more likely to fly up Commander Root’s arse.
32 Confusion
Holly didn’t know why she had feelings for Artemis Fowl - he was a cold, calculating human genius - so she tried not to think about it, because it always gave her a headache.
33 Fear
Holly lived in fear that a fairy would find out that she was secretly involved with Artemis, because if word got out she’d be outcast from Haven.
34 Lightening/Thunder
Holly loved to fly in storms - although Foaly would never give her a pair of wings again if he found out she did that - and it was an added bonus to wrap Artemis in cam foil and watch the expressions that passed over his face when she took him into the middle of a storm cloud where all he could hear was thunder and the only thing that broke the cold blackness were bolts of lightning.
35 Bonds
Juliet was sick and tired of watching Artemis and Holly act awkward around each other after the time they kissed, so she tied them together with rope and left them alone in the hope that once they got sick of trying to get free they’d kiss and make up.
36 Market
Artemis had created quite a few inventive objects inspired by fairy technology, but Holly found out and refused to let him sell them in case someone did a Spiro and got ideas.
37 Technology
Artemis always borrowed Holly’s fairy technology when she visited, because he wanted to find out just how the People’s most advanced items worked.
38 Gift
In the end, Holly got tired of trying to put things back together so that Foaly wouldn’t realise his technology had been tampered with, and she pretended to crash a pair of wings so that she could give them to Artemis because then he could dismantle that without getting her into trouble.
39 Smile
There was a photo lurking in the Fowls’ photo album of a five year old Artemis grinning at the camera with both his top front teeth missing; Holly called him ‘gappy’ for months after his mother showed Holly the picture.
40 Innocence
“Aww, you looked so innocent when you were little,” Holly teased, stretching up to pinch Artemis’ cheek when he protested to his mother about the photo.
41 Completion
Juliet hadn’t expected her strategy of tying Artemis and Holly together to go quite so well - she’d been expecting them to kiss, but not a frenzied make-out session - but in any case, her work was done.
42 Clouds
Artemis scoffed at the game of finding shapes until Holly pointed at one and informed him it looked like the buzz baton that he was going to meet if he didn’t play.
43 Sky
Holly loves to fly high and look at the world, whereas Artemis much prefers to stand with his feet on the ground and look up at the sky.
44 Heaven
Holly doesn’t believe in heaven, but she believes that somehow, someday she and Artemis will be together for eternity, because she vowed that not even death would separate them.
45 Hell
Artemis hopes to hell that there’s some kind of redemption for your sins after you die, because he knows Holly won’t be destined for hell and he promised her they’d be together forever.
46 Sun
For some reason, Artemis constantly feels an inexplicable urge to call Holly ‘my sunshine’ - he refrains only because he fears an introduction to her fist.
47 Moon
Talking about when you wanted to die was such a macabre sort of conversation, but somehow it seemed terribly romantic when Holly said she wanted to die above ground so she could see the moon in her last moments of life.
48 Waves
The pain was coming faster, now, in waves that rolled over Holly and wracked her body with agony; all Artemis could do was carry her outside into the clear moonlit night, because that was where she wanted to die.
49 Hair
“Lie down with me,” Holly whispered weakly, and Artemis did so, letting her tangle her tiny, delicate fingers in his soft raven hair with the last vestiges of her strength.
50 Supernova
Artemis couldn’t see or hear or think anything but Holly, and then she breathed out for the last time and her fingers in his hair went slack and the world shrunk around him until all that existed was the empty shell that a moment ago had been home to his beloved fairy.
