Fire In The Hole!

Dec 10, 2005 10:28

Yesterday around 4 pm Atlantic Standard Time we got dumped on by snow! Now this was wet grouse snow and we got lots of it. Now Billy loves the first snowfall of the year so around 9pm he came home and we went for a walk. I did not take my camera, as there was heavy snow and gale force winds! A very bad combo! I did get to see the Alexander Keith’s Brewery and Pier 21. Now Pier 21 has a lot of meaning to me cause that would be the first part of Canada my grand parents would have seen 50+ years ago. This was the location where all ships from Europe would have landed.

We got back from out walk and we were soaked through! So we took off our layer in the hall it was around 11:40pm. I pretty much took everything off cause I was so wet! Just as I pulled my long johns off the fire alarms went off! I jumped back in side our house and yelled at Billy to evacuate and make sure everyone was ok. I went and got pants and called 911! As the super I have access to the keys to get into the fire panel to see what zone the fire is in. apparently none of the trouble lights were on. Now I know in BC if you call 911 and request a fire truck they send you one! Here I got the third degree in questions!
“Sir is there actually a fire”
“There are 12 condos here is it a realistic thought I am going to go search for a fire, the alarms are going off I feel that’s reason enough to see them!”
“Sir you will get a fine if this is a false alarm”

OK Now You Pissed Me Off

“Look Bitch, If You Don’t Send a Truck & My House Burns Down I Will Hurt You!”

And I say these just as some neighbors are running by me in a mad panic.

After I got of the phone I helped some neighbor with there cat carriers and we cleared the building and got everyone to gather in a group. The reason it was so scary is cause no one knew if there was a fire or not so people saved there cats and some took a few belongings because this was very real. The fire truck showed up and lots of non-calendar material fire fighters went and checked out the building. It was cleared and we all got to go back inside. The fire chief explained to me that out fire panel thinks there is a fire but there isn’t. There for it is broken and needs to be fixed. The fire chief also complimented Billy and I saying that we handled the situation very well. Telling us most people would have shut the alarm off and thought nothing of it. The building owner arrived shortly after the fire men had left and he called the guy to “fix” the panel he told me at around 2am that it was fixed. At 5:53am it went off again! The fire chief had told me if it went of again in the same night to turn off and re set. If the alarm came back on as soon as I reset then there was a real fire. So after I re set it was quiet. So there is someone coming in to fix it this morning. Thank God. I think I had a combined 5 hours sleep!
