Backyard adventures with Tuna and Shadow

May 02, 2020 23:11

The weather was perfect today. 72, breezy and low humidity. My husband cut down the half-dead ornamental cherry tree in our backyard, I am very sad to see it go. But it was infested with an invasive beetle species and was not going to get any better. We have kept it for almost three years since we moved in, but the branches were touching our new neighbor's garage, so we though it best to just let it go. I will miss the shade and blossoms it gave us, but this gives me a chance to plant another tree that will be a little more manageable, or perhaps some bushes or a little vegetable garden. We will see!

Our cat Tuna has shown a great interest in going outside recently. My husband bought him a harness, and he seems to have warmed up to it pretty quickly. I could not even put a collar on him when we first adopted him, but I think he knows now if he wears this contraption, he gets to go outside into the backyard to watch birds, sit in the sun, and sniff the fresh air, so he puts up with it. He is still getting used to all the new sensations, but I think he's enjoying himself quite a bit.

I wish I had pictures of Shadow, but surprisingly, the big bully of the house is so scared to be outside. He ran right back in when my husband brought him out in harness, haha. :)
