Hahaha! Ha! Bet you guys weren't expecting me to finish so soon, yea? :D

Anyways, Aragorn and Halbarad.. I finished the drawing last night, and then I colored the whole thing in photoshop the same night.

All the art/tech details can be found in the colored link. Ok. Now the lore, geeky part.

Halbarad is on the left with the sword drawn. Aragorn is supposed to be book-verse; while movie-Aragorn has definitely inspired his look (especially the hair), there are still distinct differences in the nose, shape of the face, eyebrows, etc.

I *do* believe that the Dunedain grew facial hair like all men do. Why: despite Tolkien's letter, he sorta forgot that he DID give some elves beards. Like Cirdan. Haha. Also, genetics. Only one man had elf blood in him: Elros. What about the rest of the citizens of Numenor? They were normal men until they got promoted lifespans by Iluvatar, and there's no reason that this promotion also included beardlessness. And if Aragorn's line was made of complete inbreds, by the 10th or so generation there would be Charles II's of Spains, and, uh, no. I mean, look at this family tree! Eww! So inbreeding was not bad enough to get that- and so the line was filled with normal, beard-growing genes, and by a few generations, even the direct descendants of the throne had the dominant beard-growing gene... maybe it was a bit harder for some individuals to grow beards, but by Aragorn's time? Yea, no. They grew beards. SCIENCE SAYS SO.

But unlike Jackson's trilogy, men also knew how to shave. Rangers do shave. But these two have been in the wilds for a while and haven't had a chance to. But they shave when they can, especially when it gets hot out. *nod*

Oh, and they aren't as old as the War of the Ring yet... I imagine this is soon after Aragorn returns to the North. Halbarad and Aragorn are also the same age, Halbarad a few months younger. So they look a bit older, but not 80-year-old-Dunedain old yet. XD

And yes! Totally included the stars of the Dunedain. ^^

So I think that covers it. :D

lotr, art, tolkien, halbarad, aragorn
