Friday Prompt

We've talked about travel. We've talked about work. Tonight, let's combine the two. Does your job require you to travel? List at least two great places you've traveled to because your job needed you to go there. On the flip side, list two places that made you want to quit your job.

The unimportant jobs I've held have never required me to go further than the nearest water cooler, however Father spends quite a large amount of time traveling. When I was younger he used to allow me to go to a few of the more candid meetings in far off destinations. I have been to Tokyo, Japan, Bangalore, India, Hong Kong, China, and Dubai, UAE, as well as Los Angeles, New York, and San Fransisco multiple times.

For the purposes of this, the two best places were Bangalore and Tokyo. Bangalore was interesting as I'd been fascinated with India when I was a child, and Father actually arranged and allowed for me to explore the city while he was in meetings. I wasn't much older than nine, and he had specifically set up tour guides that were knowledgeable and engaging. I was older for Tokyo, around fourteen, so while the time I had with Father was less than perfect, I managed to slip out of Roger's clutches and spent a whole glorious day completely by myself in downtown Tokyo. The hell I received for it was large, George particularly was not impressed, but it was completely worth it. This was also the last time I was allowed to accompany Father on trips.

On the flip side, each time I went to New York was terrible. The first time I went I was maybe seven and Father had not provided anything for me to do. He left me in the hotel room with Roger and I spent the worst six hours of my life being fussed over every little thing I did or touched. The second time I was not much older and pitched such a fit that Roger actually broke his passive-aggressive shell and slapped me. I will never forget his face after he did it. He looked like he couldn't believe he had stooped to Father's level. I was again confined to the room, but Roger seemed genuinely remorseful and provided choc ices for me until I was sick. Wonderful parenting skills, Roger.
