the Squidworm!

The deep sea is really still a frontier, and largely unexplored, so the best new critters are found there. Things that would amaze even the writers of midaeval bestiaries. Like this beastie:

It's about 4 inches long, and *pretty*. I wish I could have one in an aquarium but it would be really difficult to maintain a pressure equvilant to 2 miles below the surface. Actually, I'd be happy with some decent quality video of it swimming.

I find this sort of thing oddly comforting; amazing beasts, deep in the ocean, where we're unlikely to seriously screw things up. Whatever hppens up here in the sunlit world, the deep sea is still wild and full of life and mystery.

And obvioulsy, a slow day at the clinic today :)
