snow day!

Yesterday I had the day off, and though it would be a good plan to go get groceries for turkey-day stuff. Even though t was snowing. It was really just a little snow, not more than a couple inches. You could still see the grass poking up through it. The roads hadn't been plowed, but they really weren't bad even so; it was just a little snow, and I can drive in snow.

Except, no one else here can.

I went and got my check, and deposited it, and then headed to get mathochist with the plan of going to Trader Joe's and Cosco. My Bear was working from home, so he came along...and we ended up abandoning the idea of cosco, as it was snowing more and people are crazy. So I headed home.

And when I say folks here can't drive in snow, I mean literally. I thought it would be more like in Blacksburg, where the college students, being inexperienced, tend to end up in the ditch because they don't realize they can't drive/turn/stop as fast when there's snow on the road. But no. People really can't drive, as in, they just stop. In the middle of the road. Sometimes going uphill, nearly getting *me* stuck, sometimes just in the middle of the highway, or off-ramp, creating huge back-ups. As if out of some kind of paralytic fear of sliding. So it took me 2 hours to get from Burien to Renton, (which should have been maybe 20 minutes). And the actual *roads* were really not that bad!

But this morning I got a call from the clinic, saying I didn't need to come in because on account of the snow, they aren't very busy. I hope they close early so the folk who are there can go home before dark, but I'm grateful not to have to brave the other drivers out there again. Really, the roads are not that bad...

crazy, snow
