Joyful Ramblings Ahoooooy!!

Ash Wednesday is supposed to be a day of somber contemplation - and I was successful until about 9pm tonight. Then the Jack's Mannequin show started at the House of Blues Hall of Music!!

My first live experience with them was not so good - but this? This was fabulous!! HOB is the perfect venue for them. From opening with Crashin', to Holiday From Real and Spinning, to Dark Blue and an encore with SWIM!!!!! Gaaah - so many songs that I can't even list them all!!!!!!!

I was having my usual issue of trying to see. Usually I'll try and force my way a little up, but there were so many TALL people. So I found an empty pocket by the sound controls and camped out in front of that rail. I switched back and forth between standing on the floor and balancing on the rail to get a few extra inches to SEE!!!! OMG my arms and shoulders hurt now, but so totally worth it. The sheer joy and energy that Andrew has when he plays - I think Brendon has at least been temporarily ousted as one of my favorite poppy piano players.

Then this adorable (tall) drunk dude kept flailing just enough in front of me - thwarting my balancing attempts on the rail. So I decided to see if a)the rail would support me and b)if the sound guys would actually let me sit. Yes and YES - so the rest of the show meant that I didn't have to stretch my shoulders into unnatural positions. But sitting on a rail for 30-45 minutes is not the world's most comfortable thing to do.

I almost wished that I'd at least remembered a digital camera with me, because zoom function would have been a nice thing. But then I wouldn't have been so focused on just ENJOYING the music and the experience. Because, when Andrew McMahon is ON - Jack's Mannequin is an experience.

My first solo concert going experience was an awesome one. But, I think it's better to have at least one more person there to share the flailing with.

Now, time to go pass the hell out. It's been a really long day - but so totally totally totally worth it =D
