Moviehole recently reported that the film was putting out a casting ball for new actors to play Kayako and Toshio, since Takako Fuji (Kayako) and Yuya Ozeki (Toshio) have passed on the opportunity.
OH GOD WHAT. *cries*
Now, although I enjoy the Ju-on remakes, unlike most people, I'm extremely apprehensive about The Grudge 3. First Takashi Shimizu supposedly isn't directing it, then it's going to be a direct-to-DVD affair, then it's supposedly not going to be set in the Saeki household at all, and may not even be set in Japan (I think these are just rumours, though), now this. It just seems like one big ball of WTF.
Why are they even mentioning Yuya Ozeki, though? He stopped playing Toshio after Ju-on: The Grudge 2 because he was getting too old for the role. Surely they mean Ohga Tanaka, who played him in The Grudge 2?
Of course, I won't hold it against Takako Fuji - I can understand if she's getting sick of the role, I mean, she has played Kayako seven times already. It's her choice if she wants to quit. I also read somewhere that she once stated that she will continue to play the role if Shimizu continues to hire her for it, so maybe the fact that he isn't directing this film has something to do with her decision? But damn it, that woman is Kayako! I just can't see anyone else doing the role justice.
However, if she doesn't play Kayako in the Japanese sequel, I think I'll sit in the corner and wangst. XD
All I can say is, they'd better damn well hire someone who actually resembles Takako, let alone be able to do all the contorting movements that should be a requirement for the role. And I want to see lots of Kayako/Karen subtext, ha ha ha. (Yeah, right, they're probably not going to feature the character of Karen, either. That, and I highly doubt that the writers even intended for hot lesbian ghost subtext in the first place. ...I'm not the only person who sees it, so shut up, you lot snickering in the back! XD)
Oh well. I'll probably watch it anyway because, hey... I might be pleasantly surprised. I just tend to freak out over actors being recast. (Like what's happened with Rachel Weisz not returning to play Evelyn in the next Mummy movie... WTF WTF WTF.)
Okaaaay, that's enough ranting from me. I actually intended to update about something completely different, but what the hell! I'll update about it later.
Oh yeah, and I'm having a bit of an icon dilemma. I have no idea which ones to delete to make room for new ones. o_O
