Dream interpretation stuffs

Given my interest in dreams and the meanings behind the imagery, I've recently realised that quite a few of my dreams have recurring themes, other than gore, violence and general disturbing shit.

Included with these themes, I've also realised that I've had several dreams where I'm being chased, pursued, stalked or just generally feeling threatened. Another theme is the fact that I'm usually weilding extremely crappy excuses for weapons if I'm being attacked or pursued (eg. snooker cue, pencil, teaspoons). Also, earlier this year, I had two notable dreams involving pencils.

So, today, I was reading through my 10,000 Dreams Interpreted book which I got for Christmas - I think it was last Christmas - to see what some of these things may mean. It doesn't contain everything I want to know - I'd expect to have a much bigger book for that. XD I decided to note down just some of the excerpts based on dreams I can vividly remember from the past few years:

- Being attacked in a dream indicates a fear of being under threat from external events or internal emotions. Unknown impulses or ideas force the dreamer into taking a defensive attitude.

- To have a weapon used against us means that we have to look at how we are party to people being aggressive around us. It may be that we have done something to upset the other person which results in aggression, or it may be that we have put ourselves in a position of becoming the victim of circumstance.

- Various weapons can suggest varying degrees of spiritual power. The dreamer should use this power with relevant caution.

- Dreaming of being chased or of trying to escape is perhaps one of the most common dreams; usually we are trying to escape responsibility, our own sense of failure, fear or emotions we can't handle.

- Spiritually the image of being chased or pursued suggests either fear of one's actions, or is a play on words, as in chaste.

- If a pen or pencil appears in a dream we are expressing or recognising the need to communicate with other people.

- The powers to transcribe spiritual knowledge and to keep a record of that information are a necessary partr of development. Dreaming of a pen or pencil may suggest that we could attempt automatic writing.

- Dreaming of being at work highlights issues, concerns or difficulties we may have within the work situation. We could be actively trying to make changes in our lives and these changes, in dreams, become reflected into the work situation.

- To dream of a violent scene where blood appears indicates that we are being self-destructive in some way.

- Emotional abuse can translate itself in dreams into bloody wounds either self-inflicted or being inflicted.

- Any dream to do with the eye is to do with observation and discrimination. It is indicative of enlightenment and wisdom, protection and stability.

- Loss of eyesight signifies the loss of clarity and, depending on which eye, can be either the loss of logic (right eye) or the loss of intuition (left eye).

- The tree is symbolic in dreams of the basic structure of our inner lives.

- Any violence in dreams is a reflection of our own inner feeling, sometimes about ourselves, sometimes about the situations around us.

- If others are behaving violently towards us we may need to take care in waking life not to upset others.

- If, however, someone is being hostile towards us, it very often means that we need to be aware that we are not acting appropriately, that others may feel we are putting them in danger.

Aaand I'm done for now. I'll update about today's events tomorrow.
