ooc: Continuing from this conversation.

While Michael waited for Tess' cab to pull up, he was forcing himself to stay seated on a bench that was on the front porch of Elise's home, overlooking the neighborhood. Somehow, the fact that he had slept the majority of the previous day had managed to give him more energy than he knew what to do with it, so he knew he'd be pacing if he were to stand. Or maybe it was just the withdrawal acting up again? Quitting had made him extremely restless for weeks the first time, maybe he was being the same way this time.

It was good he was sitting, though, because he was still a little sore from the fight with Charlie's worker. He knew that Tess would definitely be able to see that he had gotten a beating a couple of days ago - from the new bruise on his cheekbone, the few stitches that went along with it, and the way his knuckles on his right hand were cut and bruised - but she needed company, and frankly he did too. Besides, those, to him, were scars of a fight he had needed and that he was proud of. He may have lost, but he had gained something else in the end that he had been trying to get back in months: a sense of waking up that he hadn't been able to find in anything else.

As he waited, he tried to think of ways to help Tess in her attempt to quit smoking. Well, if she wanted to be helped, that is. She might have promised she'd quit smoking if he quit heroin, but the fact that she was suffering was making the guilt he was feeling too big to ignore. She had quit because she had been afraid he'd overdose somewhere, so technically it was partly his fault she was feeling the way she was. He'd talk to her, he decided. He'd let her decide, and he'd support whatever it was she decided.

confessions, tess
