When I was a teenager and really unhappy I had three big escapes from my life: books, livejournal/fandom, and music. I was passionate about my music and fervent about finding new stuff, going to gigs. I would've said my love of music was one of the defining features of my personality.
Then I got all happy and lazy and complacent, and so wrapped up

Spotify basically lets you listen to almost any music for free. You search for artists in the same way you would on the itunes store, and then directly stream the music to your computer. If you have the free version there are occasional radio style adverts but they're pretty limited and not that obtrusive. If you have the paid version (£10 a month) you get no adverts, can "listen offline" and play spotify through your ipod. I find the £10 a month well worth it because I could easily spend quadruple that on music every month. Hope that makes sense, I'm not really that technical so it might not!
