I want a sewing machine

I'm asking for money for Christmas since I want a sewing machine and there's no way I'm going to be able to take on on the plane. I've heard some good things about White sewing machines, and I like the White w3100 and the White 2235. However, if any of you peoples in my lj list who sew (you know who you are! HINT HINT), what would y'all suggest? Do you know anything about this brand or these specific machines? What others do you like? I want to be able to quilt with them as well as do things such as making curtains, hemming, making clothes, etc.
