So week before last I thought I'd pulled my left pec (and was hoping it wasn't torn) and laid off it completely all last week. Yesterday I worked back to give it an extra day to heal. Today I tried it out.
set one - warmup - bar.
set 2 - warmup set - 95 pounds
It felt ok so I thought I'd back off on the weight just slightly and do 5 sets of 5 instead of 10 sets of 3. Loaded 125 on the bar and did 2 sets of 5. Felt fine. One of my wrestlers was a couple benches over, going heavier than me, and it kinda pissed me off, so I thought I'd test my max after a week and a half layoff. So I put 135 pounds on which was my one rep max.
And then I did 3 reps like it was nothing. Probably coulda done 4, but I had just blown through my max BIGTIME and didn't want to push it.
But then I did another set of three which was just unreal. I have no idea where this strength came from - it rocked.
Of course, I worked my pecs so hard I had some trouble with the dips and pushups I had planned for the rest of my workout, but it was a small price to pay for blasting through a sticking point. ROCK!
