INSTRUCTIONS
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them!

Stole this from strawberrykaoru. I cheated a little...I went over the time, and I did edit them. ^^;;; Also I did eleven. Because eleven is my favorite number and what can I say, meme rules are made to the broken. 8D HAPPY BIRTHDAY YUGI TWINS. <33

1. Supanova Sydney Podcast: Dan Green - Joffre Street Productions (I’m not even kidding. xD This was the first song on shuffle. And I intend to write a fic to go with it. Good thing I’ve got thirty minutes to think of something. 8D)

“This is the last listener question before our commercial break…yes, Jen, you’re on the air.”

There were whispers of “Go ahead! Ask!” in the background. The girl on the phone giggled nervously. “Um…I wanted to ask if Mutou-kun has a girlfriend.”

Yugi leaned in toward the microphone good-naturedly. “Sorry Jen-chan, I’m taken.”

There was a chorus of squeals from Jen and her friends and they could hear the girls in the background urging Jen to ask who the lucky girl was, but the radio host stopped the call to announce a quick commercial break. Yugi felt someone squeeze his hand and glanced over at the man sitting beside him. He smiled.

“You do realize that the press will be all over you now that you’ve released that bit of information, right?” Yami said as soon as the mics were turned off. Yugi squeezed his hand back.

“Let them ask,” he replied. “I’ll tell them you’re the only one for me.”

2. Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel

Yugi lived for dreams these days. Considering the state of the world and the numerous ways one could die young, he supposed he was lucky to have survived to see old age, but it was tough to accept that age meant giving up his health and independence.

Dreams, however, were freeing. In them he was young and healthy again. He saw friends who the universe had already taken from their world. And sometimes, he had the comforting feeling that he was almost home, until it was snatched away when he awoke.

He lay back on the somewhat lumpy bed and closed his eyes, drifting through memories. Something warm gasped his hand and he jerked, startled, and looked up - not to see the nursing home’s roof, but to see a young man smiling down at him. The man’s purple eyes glowed with warmth. “Aibou,” he whispered, pulling Yugi to his feet.

“Atemu…!” Yugi stood, leaving behind his fragile body, and threw his arms around him. The room had vanished. Tears of happiness slid down his face. So warm, so real…what a perfect dream.

“This isn’t a dream,” Atemu said, as if reading his mind.

“Then…what is it?” Yugi asked, barely daring to hope.

“It’s time to go,” Atemu said softly, taking his hands. “Come with me.”

Then Yugi understood. This wasn’t a dream.

And finally, he was home.

(( A/N: Yeah, yeah, so this one's longer than a drabble. ^^; I have no excuse. ))

3. Can’t Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon

The spirit stood beside his soul room door, one hand on it as he fretted.

There was really no point in lingering. Fighting the truth was a stupid waste of time, and meant lying to both himself and to Yugi. So he had made a vow to himself that he would tell Yugi how he felt - and then promised himself not to fight that vow.

That didn’t stop himself from trying.

If I go out there and tell him, I may ruin everything between us.

But, the part of him that was determined to stick to his promise countered, if I don’t, I’ll regret never taking the chance, won’t I?

Before the other side of his brain could argue back, he left his soul room and materialized in Yugi’s room. His partner looked up from his homework and smiled.

“Hi mou hitori no boku.”

“…Aibou?”

Yugi sensed his hesitation. “What’s up?”

“I…need to talk to you about something.”

4. Best I Ever Had - Vertical Horizon

“Hello Yugi,” his grandfather said, smiling as he saw his grandson walk up the stairs and enter the room. He received in return a mumbled, “Hi Grandpa.”

Sugoroku waited, anticipating - flat out hoping for - more, but Yugi simply walked by, heading for the hallway. His grandfather called after him, “So did you have a good time?”

Yugi shrugged and didn’t answer. Seconds later Sugoroku heard the door to his bedroom click shut. He sighed. He had hoped that this date would finally convince Yugi it was time to heal. It now appeared he had hoped in vain.

In his room, Yugi lay back on his bed and closed his eyes. Tears escaped from the corners, and he rolled onto his side, clenching the covers in his fists as he whispered, “Atemu…”

5. Who We Are - Lifehouse

“And this was our class picture in second grade,” Yugi said, pointing at the album. “See, there’s me.”

Yami smiled at the photo before continuing to shuffle through the stack of pictures he was holding. Yugi glanced over. “What pictures are those?”

“I found them in a box…they were taken just a few years ago. Your mom must not have had time to put them in an album.”

“Let me see.” Yugi took a few. “Oh, I remember these. They’re from a trip to visit my aunt and uncle. I don’t look much different, huh?” He frowned at them. “Maybe it’s time for a change. My life is different than it was back then, so I should change too.”

Yami looked up. “No.”

“What?”

“I meant…” Yami set the pictures down. “Just…don’t change who you are. You’re perfect just the way you are.”

His cheeks flushing, Yugi scooted closer and wrapped his arm around Yami’s waist. “You mean it?”

“Of course. You wouldn’t be my Aibou if you tried to be someone else.”

“Then don’t worry. I’ll always be your aibou,” Yugi said, before comforting him with a kiss.

6. One - Simple Plan

Adults say ‘we’ are the future of the world. That the future is ours, that we hold the key to it.

Sometimes I think - though always jokingly, I could never have the confidence to actually believe it - that the world might benefit from people like us; mou hitori no boku and me. We believe in a world where people can look beyond appearances, beyond limits, beyond tradition, and see the possibility of something new and heartfelt and real - so very real - even if it can’t be touched.

Adults are wrong. They dream of greatness for their children as parents should, but I know the truth.

The future has limits. I prefer not to think about it, but I know the day is coming soon when I will lose him. My future is already written in that respect. Even if he was not a man, even if he was the partner that tradition expects of me, he is a spirit and he must leave me.

I want to ask them, if we truly have so much control over the future, why must it hurt so badly.

7. A Twist in my Story - Secondhand Serenade

The room had been silent for the last twenty minutes. Yami opened his eyes and glanced to his side, and smiled to see Yugi asleep. His breathing was deep and even. Yami reached out and stroked his hair once.

Every moment with Yugi was a blessing, certainly. But times like these made him wonder if he really deserved something this great. He was only an ordinary man. He had his good moments and his bad. He made mistakes. He’d been a downright idiot at some points.

And yet here Yugi was beside him. He snuggled closer and closed his eyes, drinking in the warmth, the closeness of their bodies.

He knew he had many things to be thankful for. But he would give up every other blessing the universe had sent to stay by Yugi’s side. That was all he needed.

8. I’ll Be There For You - Bon Jovi

There was nothing he could do to pretend it wasn’t happening. The empty drawers, missing luggage, and painfully empty house made it all too clear that Yugi had really left this time.

Yami wanted to be angry. He wanted to tell Yugi he didn’t care if he left. He wanted to stand up proudly and say that it didn’t matter if Yugi didn’t love him anymore. To say that he knew when it was over, and he could accept when he was no longer wanted.

He didn’t want to be that person who cried and begged for forgiveness. The person who pined and moped and lived in memories. Who couldn’t let go, no matter how much time passed.

Neither was possible. He knew he would wait forever, ready to run to Yugi’s side the moment he asked him to, hating himself for it and yet unable to break away, because he would always love Yugi too much.

9. I Miss You - Simple Plan

It was my fault.

He twisted under the covers, struggling not cry aloud. He couldn’t let the others know he was hurting, not when it was his own damn arrogance that had caused this situation. He had no right to hurt.

I lost him.

Sure, he had tried to blame others. Dartz, Rafael, the entire Doma organization. All targets for his pain, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t lie to himself.

He cursed his heart. As if trying to shift the blame wasn’t bad enough, now he suffered from loneliness and guilt. He deserved the pain, undoubtedly, but not the sympathy that he knew others would show him if they heard his sobs. He had already seen the pity on his friends’ faces. He had no right to be pitied, no right to feel anything…

I miss you, Aibou.

I miss you.

10. It’s Been Awhile - Staind

The beach they had landed upon was beautiful. It was a long stretch of smooth sand and the water reflected gold and pink from the sunset, but Yugi couldn’t appreciate the beauty. He was too busy staring into his other self’s eyes. He had never seen self-hatred so deep in someone’s expression before, and it hurt him inside to see it.

“Mou hitori no boku…”

The spirit looked away. After everything he had done…he was so used to being angry, so used to being lost and incomplete and alone. He had smothered himself in the emotions, to the point that it felt like he had suffered for centuries, even if it had only been days. Of course his friends had tried to help. They had done everything they could to make him believe it would work out, but without Yugi he refused to be optimistic. Happiness was too dangerous. It would hurt too much if he messed up again.

Yugi walked closer and wrapped his arms around the spirit’s misty form. “It’s okay. Everything is okay now.”

It had been awhile since he could believe it would be okay. Nobody else could have convinced him to forgive his sins. But with Yugi, for a moment, he believed it might be possible.

11. She’s In Love With The Boy - Trisha Yearwood

Yugi felt Yami interlace their fingers and looked to the side to see him smiling up at the sky. Yugi smiled too and looked back up at the stars with him. This was a perfect moment. If only he could have held onto it longer. Without warning, the metaphorical black cloud that had been following them around for days obscured the stars.

“Have you been thinking about what happened?” Yugi finally whispered.

Yami nodded. “Yes.”

“What did you decide?”

“I decided I’m not letting anyone separate me from someone I love,” he replied. “I’m going to talk to them again and try to make them understand.”

A warm glow overtook Yugi’s cheeks and he snuggled closer, burying his face in the crook of Yami’s neck. “But what if your parents refuse to support us being together?” he asked, still worried.

Yami grasped his hand tighter. “I told you. Nobody will separate us.” He leaned to the side and kissed Yugi’s forehead. “I promise.”

Notes: I'm only happy with a few of these...some of them I'm flat out ashamed of. Writer's block = horrible writing. But I needed something to post today because there was no way I was posting theme 27 for Yugi's (and Yami's unofficial) birthday. I like angst and all, but a tragedy fic? In which there is no hope at all of things being good? That's not an acceptable birthday post! Even I have limits! Anyway...your thoughts? =3
