The Advances of Technology

Today marks a momentous occasion for us gamers, especially the portable players.

Yes... today was the game center launch of the Nintendo 3DS.

Its basically the biggest public announce of the release of the 3DS. Of course, this is old news for everyone except the technologically impaired and internetless.

From last year, the were rumors going around about a new portable machine by Nintendo that would play 3D games without the need for glasses. Of course like others, i was skeptical (like i was back when i couldn't fathom a 2 screened portable gaming system :D) But after announcements at gaming conventions and hands on demonstrations by gaming sites (giving it a thumbs up no less), I personally can't wait to see its effects for myself. And since now it has been properly announced to the public (the part that hasn't been on the internet that is... ignorant people)

Besides the awesome 3D-ness of it (it also has a 3D slider to adjust 3D-ness... what??), its got 2 cameras on the back to take 3D photos and gyro sensors (movement sensors) on the front camera that can be utilized in some of the new games coming out for the title (like Nintendogs + Cats 3D, now even more time to ignore you actual dog to play with your imaginary pet). Oh, and there is an ANALOG STICK. A FREAKING ANALOG STICK. i'm sorry for those who don't think its a big deal, but I do, mostly because i hate mashing my thumb onto the arrow keys and having a large cross shape painfully imprint on my finger afterwards. So analog sticks are love, which was why i was debating over a PSP for some time. Despite all of these well placed new features, there is something that is seriously scaring me: Region-locking... Rumor has it that the 3DS might be region-locked...

Nintendo , if you do that, that will seriously ruin the 3DS and will definitely be the worst move a gaming company could make (just look at the XBox). So do yourself and us a big favor, DON'T DO IT.

But besides this possibly false rumor, these are some seriously innovative changes Nintendo is making to their system, and I'm glad they've managed to surprise us with something very new. I was beginning to worry they were running out of ideas after, what I think, was the completely unnecessary and overpriced DSi and DSi XL. But 3DS pretty much saved their ass, while also bring nintendo back up to awesomeness.

Like every other gaming console, I'm probably going to wait a good year before getting mine in order to see a good game library of 3DS to come out. That and so the 3DS R4 will be up and clean too ;). Nintendo has already posted a list of games set to be released for the 3DS here. Obviously its limited but trusty wikipedia has a wider list of games set to be released. Things that have caught my eye? SMT Devil's Survivor Overhaul (dude... summoning monsters in 3D? that can't get any more awesome), a final fantasy title, and Professor Layton (and the Mask of Miracles).

I can't believe I'm saying this, but PSP, you seriously just got owned.

However on a sadder note, some of these have only planned to have a Japanese release. LAME. If they don't release these titles for the American/Euro audience, I'm seriously going to kill someone...

So with this analysis in mind, I'm happily wishing the 3DS much success once it hits the market while I'm at home desperately trying to finish 4 games i should have finished long ago.

Oh, and its snowing... like LEGITLY snowing and its gorgeous. Pictures soon :D.

Peace out,

Tenshi
