The week of working hell

Mar 11, 2008 22:01

I have two finals. One is a take home final due by noon Monday. My other one is sit-down and it’s 10:30am-12:30pm on Monday. So I’m done relatively early with all my finals. (Okay, really early.) But then I have work. I have work like crazy. I work normally 13.5 hours a week. So I work that many hours this week because it’s normal. Next week? I work 28.5 hours. That’s more than double. I will work a total of 42 hours for this pay period, two more than I’m technically allowed. I’m hoping no one notices until it’s too late. I want the money! I actually really really need the money. So, what to know my work schedule? This week is normal with 10:30pm-3am Wed/Thur. Then 2:30-5:30pm Thursday and 11:30-1:30pm Friday. Next week:

Sunday: 1:30-5:30pm (normal)
Tuesday: 12:30-3:30pm (covering)
6:30-11:00pm (covering)
Wednesday: 3:00-7:30am (late shift)
2:30-4:30pm (covering)
10:30pm-4am (normal+late)
Thursday: 2:30-5:30pm (normal)
Friday: 11:30am-1:30pm (normal)

The study center is open 24 hours so we all have to take five hours of late shifts since obviously no one is normally scheduled for 3-7:30am. From 12:30pm Tuesday till 4am Thursday, I’ll only get two four-hour naps between the 3am and 2:30pm shift on Wednesday. And then, I get to drive 6+ hours on Friday after work so I can meet my family up in the Gilroy area. It’s my mom’s birthday that Thursday so they’re going up to visit Santa Cruz. (It’s what we did for my sister’s birthday as well). I’m buying at least two, if not three, Monster energy drinks to get me through the week. But it’s worth it. I’ve calculated that I should make $356.90 before taxes. This is really good because without my dad’s loan, which should really be going towards paying off my credit card, I’ll run out of money mid-May. And that was without calculating in cap and gown, passport, food, mailing taxes, tax software, and normal necessities (face wash, deodorant, etc). So yeah, it’ll be insane but worth it, especially since other than my Sunday shift, all my work next week will be without finals looming over me so I can read and not feel stressed (other than the stress of work). I can’t wait for this quarter to be over.

edit: Actually, next Friday I won't be working. Coworker I'm covering a lot for is going to cover for me. That way I don't exceed how many hours I'm allowed to work as well as be able to drive up to Gilroy before dinner.
