I Made A Mess

Jun 30, 2009 14:26

Hello, livejournal. This is Aiden, and I haven't seen you in a while. I apologize for that. I just don't have the motivation to update this contraption most of the time. I swear I'll keep trying.

This past Friday, I took some of my beautiful friends and some of their beautiful friends to the Let's Make A Mess tour in Pontiac, MI. It was at the Eagle Theater, which is connected to the Crofoot Ballroom, if you remember, is where Cris and I saw 3oh!3, The Maine, Family Force 5, Hit The Lights, and A Rocket To The Moon last month. Was it last month? Or the month before that? Anyway...

Playing this time were Hey Monday, The Bigger Lights, The Friday Night Boys, Stereo Skyline, and This Providence. An AMAZING lineup in my opinion. I am a pop-rock whore. Though, I do not consider This Providence "pop rock."

I picked up Cris near the Red Eye around midnight, then we drove over to B-Muffin's house (his name is Brandon Ruffin. Ruffin rhymes with 'muffin'). Then we just waited around, watched a little BET and some on demand music videos. Brendan(not Brandon) kept texting us saying he was leaving, but it STILL took him over an hour to show up. After everyone in Saginaw was called for, we went to meijer and bought a ration of gummies and beverages. Gummy sharks = YUM. Took the boys back to my house, ran in and got ready while they took my car for a joy ride. What was I thinking? At least they didn't damage my baby. Thank God.
McDonald's at 3:30am. On the road at 4:15. Got lost looking for Korrin's house. Note to self: get the zip code EVERY TIME you plan on using a GPS. Reached The venue around 7am. Walked around Pontiac looking for a bathroom. Muffin, Korrin, and I ended up leaving and driving to a McDonald's down the street to pee. Bullshit and Egyptian Rat Screw(Ratscrew?) and card houses galore. We didn't get neighbors until a little after noon. They were cool girls. How come I like music that only 15 and 16 year old girls like? Okay, I know that's not true.

The bus arrives and later on, Brendan and I are asked to help unload Hey Monday's stuff from it, promising free posters in return. It was awesome helping out. I don't know what was in the big ass yellow case i was carrying, but it was so heavy, my palm blistered. I'm thinking it was Jersey's bass or something like that. We got what we were promised, This Providence posters. mine is currently on my wall.

Via Twitter, I hear that This Providence has arrived, so I hit the street looking for them in back alleyways(where they actually ARE parked). I look back and see that Cassadee Pope, the BEAUTIFUL lead singer of a little band called Hey Monday headed in the same direction. Our line neighbors are also running up behind HER to get a picture, so, like a little fanboy, I turn around to meet Cassadee. Got a nice little picture. She's a sweety. A busy sweety who had to go to sound check, but took time to take pictures with us anyway. =)

Only a little while longer to wait, and This Providence come and do their little pre-show hang out and acoustic set. It was beautiful. There were only a few of us who knew the words to every song. I love acoustic sets.

Afterwards, the guys took pictures and hung out for a while with fans. Andy(drummer) talked to me about ear gauges and he showed me his own holes, which have not shrunk back down to normal earring size. Thanks for a look into my own future, man.

The Show!

It was a big venue, according the bands, the BIGGEST on the tour. Really??? The Eagle was small, or so I thought.

The Bigger Lights were on first. They were amazing. Really got the crowd going. Topher's dance moves mystify me. He is Elvis Presley in skinny jeans.

Stereo Skyline were having problems setting up, and once they got on, I could hardly hear Kevin sing. All of the other bands on the tour make fun of SS on Twitter. "You tweet as much as Stereo Skyline straighten their hair," and things like that. I find it pretty funny. They really are the band that gets attention not for their music, but for their looks. Hpnestly, their set wasn't that great, but the girls still screamed like crazy when the other bands mentioned them. I think they all look like Aaron Carter.

The Friday Night Boys were third. I LOVED them! You listen to their songs, and you think that they might actually look like the members of Stereo Skyline, but no, the guys are all at least in their late 20s and hardcore, man. Andrew's even got salt & pepper graying hair. These guys are legit, and they make good pop-rock tunes. Andrew's really nice too. I think Mike was drunk. XD

This fucking Providence were explosive! Jesus, there was so much energy in the place when they got on stage. They really are amazing. They've been around so long, and they just keep getting better and better. I wish I could have seen them before, a few years ago when they were touring with Paramore. Dan is a crazy dancer. He threw a tamborine into the crowd for one of the songs, and sang to us with his beautiful voice. I had a musicgasm. B-Muffin likes them now too. Success.

Cassadee came out and sang the last chorus of "Waste Myself" with This Providence.

Okay, here we go, Hey Monday.
I danced and sang my ASS off. The band was beyond amazing. I can remember when I got a Hey Monday sticker in the mail and stuck it on my computer, as I told B-Muff, "I know I'll never like them THAT much, so it doesn't matter where I put this."

I was right up against the stage, so Cassadee and Jersey kept making silent conversation with me throughout the set. I love it when bands do that. That makes Hey Monday even more awesome.

My favourite song of the night was probably Set Off. It's my favorite Hey Monday song, and GREAT live.

(favorite picture!)

Cassadee brought out the acoustic to played Candles and 6 Months. She said, "If you ever fall in love, I want this to be your song."
Mike said that Candles reminded him of high school, where if he got rejected by a girl, he would just go home and play some N64 and he was okay. XD

After the show, we hung out outside the venue and met a few of the bands. Andrew Goldstein gave me a couple hugs, Chris called me "sweety," and I avoided the Stereo Skyline boys as much as possible.

Elliot James(Hey Monday's drummer) was my favorite. He said he saw me rockin' out all night, singing every word. He's quite adorable and the nicest member of the band, for noticing me and talking to me. Did I mention that I have one of his drumsticks? It was on the stage next to this girl, and she didn't know what to do with it, so I motioned for her to roll it over to me, and YAY, drumstick! But, yeah, Elliot is my new hero.

The Bigger Lights played an acoustic show. It was nice. Topher and John are my new best friends.

Then, Andrew Goldstein came back and grabbed a guitar, and we listened to him, topher, and Dan from This Providence sing 90s songs; Wonderwall by Oasis and Semi-charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. Videos!

And that was the end of our night, other than a stop at a gas station and McDonald's again. Home Sweet Home.
