Walking, walking, walking--and Ulysses

Aug 21, 2010 13:50

I had to pick up my prescriptions today (I'd already gone in to ask for the refill a couple days ago), and I had to do a workout (because I skipped mine yesterday--got busy), and so I decided to combine the two: I walked over to Fred Meyer to pick them up.

Now, Fred Meyer is about two minutes' drive from me as the crow flies, and about ten minutes' walk. However, I can't go as the crow flies; I have to go all the way from the back end of my complex, where my building is, out the main gate and down the road in front of my complex to get to the store. This effectively doubles my trip. This is annoying when it's snowy or icy and I just want to get down there to pick up food and maybe an extra blanket; it's actually rather nice when the whole point is to get out there and move my ass. I ended up walking about 2.2 miles in just under an hour--not very fast, but I did after all stop and get my prescriptions and all. And it's a downhill-and-then-uphill trip, so I got some hill climbing in, too. And burned almost 500 calories, which doesn't suck. Combined with the EA Active workout I did, I've burned 630 calories today. Woohoo!

And in other 'woohoo' news, I think I might have broken through my block on chapter 10. It's been months and months and MONTHS since I wrote anything on that, so this is encouraging. Maybe I can get another chapter up before school starts on Sept. 8! :)
