…
Kei, ever since the death of her beloved husband, has been worrying of the emotional stability of her first born child-her little Yuri. However around that time, during her dearest one’s last days, she was still so very reluctant to console her little angel. Because when her beloved Kota said his farewell to the world, their little Yuri-their first born. He still showed his tears. He still embraced emotions and showed everyone that he is hurt and that he is the most affected. And, who wouldn’t right? Because losing his father in a state wherein the two of them, him and his little brother Yuki, are still very close-minded about the aspect of not having a father-figure in their life, is such a heartbreaking thing to comprehend. Yet at the very least, Kei knew that her oldest will understand. Maybe not that easily, but he will. She knows, because her husband raised their child well. She raised them well too. And, she knows very well that the wisdom that their father shared to them is enough to keep them going-always and forevermore. Because as their father always say-.
In every downfall of a person, there will always be a painful wound. However, it does not matter whether the wound is big or something small, because in retrospect to all the wounds that will cause a person to fall and break. There will be a stage where everything will heal and everything will be okay. Since in every wound, there is a process wherein it will all fade and turn into one’s strength and wisdom-a scar that will show the world how beautiful a person is. Yet, to attain such state, all a person need to do is wait for the proper time to forgive and to move on ahead. Because as always, just like every heartaches and pain, there will come a time that a person will heal and patch up the heart that broke into pieces, especially due to loss. The loss that will weave a person into what they are now.
Although that’s only a part of what kept Kei at ease. The other part is her belief and her trust to Yamada Ryosuke, her son’s lover’s words. Kei believed him the most, because deep down she knows that Yamada will never allow her son to fall. He promised Ko and her after all. He promised them both that he’ll never allow any tears of pain to cascade down their Yuri’s eyes. Even now, she never faltered away from such promise. Even if she knows deep down that it’s already broken, because her son is suffering so much. Suffering so much to the point of giving up and simply just letting go of a treasured love-of Yamada Ryosuke- “…Yuri.” She called out inside a room shaded with nothing but the color black. “…little one,” she whispered the pet name that Ko and her have given their first born, like that of a soothing lullaby. However, as she calls her son’s name repeatedly, it slowly broke her heart, since it brought her nowhere. There was no response, just the silence of the night and the melody being sang by the wind.
But just like any mother, her instincts called out to her-her Yuri’s silent tears called out to her heart. And that mere fact alone, that made her smile, because it has always been a mother’s gift to know her child’s callings. Yet even if there is happiness in her black irises, the smile that laced her beautiful face, it is contrary to her eyes. Because such small act of recognition of a talent that every mother should carry, can never bring her to give out a full blown happiness and appreciation to herself. Not now. Not when her child needs her the most. Because as of the moment, that’s not what her Yuri needs. The only thing her Yuri needs now is the strength to fight and stay just as strong, even if she knows that her child is already tired and is losing hope from the continuous loss.
Because for three years now, he’s been wearing a mask-a mask that’s been filled with meaningless encouragements and hollow lies that can only momentarily mend his slowly shattering heart And for a mother who loves, that’s the most painful and that what breaks a mother’s heart most.
“…Yuri, baby, listen to mommy.” Kei whispered as she approaches her little one, who’s been huddled in the dark corner like a little pupa, crying his heart out. “…Shh, baby, listen to me.” Kei soothed as she gently cups her little angel’s tear-stained cheeks. “…don’t be like this, please, angel. Don’t kill yourself with the pain. Don’t lock yourself away. We still need you. Yamada-kun still needs you.” She cooed as she pulls her son into a very tight embrace. While the latter, who is slowly giving up and losing the light of hope, buried his face on his mother’s bosoms, wishing silently for protection, wishing greatly for warmth. Since, he is just cold, tired and weary. He can no longer fight. He just wants to let go and be free. He has had enough. He just can no longer wait. It’s been so damn long. Too long that he can no longer stand up on his own, because for the past three years, he has given his all. He tried to face the world alone and believed that his Ryosuke will wake up and hold him into a tight embrace. Yet, it didn’t happen. It’s as if the world is just turning cruel to him, because after his father’s death, comes his Ryo-chan’s accident. Which is his entire fault as well, because he became too selfish and too demanding for attention, he just didn’t think, he just demanded and now he is paying the price for his selfishness and his incompetence to understand. “…Mom, I’m tired, so fucking tired already.” He sobs as he clutches on to his mother’s shirt and just let her understanding and love soothe him into a safe place where he doesn’t hurt, where there is no pain. “…I just want to let go, mommy. I just want to set him free. He’s-” heartache and pain being blended in with his salty tears, “-he’s been suffering again because of me. I just don’t want Ryosuke to suffer anymore. He has done nothing wrong, but due to my selfish reasons. He-he-“but Yuri never got the chance to finish because his sobs and his cries of desperation got the better of him.
And his mother understands that. His mother always did. Because how much defenseless he is, wings will always cradle and protect his vulnerability. Since, a mother will never leave her child broken. Nor, will she allow her child to lose faith on the person that promised him forevermore. Although, it has been like three long and agonizing years since that tragic incident happened-that incident that caused so much pain and brought so much misery to her child’s life. And if Kei remember correctly, it was after Ko’s burial that it happened, Yamada Ryosuke’s accident that resulted to his current state now, in a coma. And since then, her son has been blaming himself for the incident. He keeps on repeating and engraving to his head that if he hadn’t demanded time and hadn’t been such an inconsiderate lover, then Ryosuke would have never been in his comatose state. They should have been happy now and not cause so much pain to others-especially Yamada’s family.
However, regret is just too late. It is too late now, because the wound has been sowed already. It is permanently a dent in their life. That’s why, rather than grieving and blaming, its better if they strong. Because, she knows that Yamada will not break his promise to her and her deceased husband, nor will he allow his Yuri to cry like this-never.
“…Mom, I-I…what should I do?” Yuri cried and cried on. While Kei, she just patted her son’s head and listened to the cries of her son’s broken heart. “…I don’t want anyone to suffer anymore. I don’t want Ryosuke to suffer anymore, yet, I am too selfish mommy. I don’t want him to go. I still believe that he’ll wake up and won’t leave me. Not like this mommy-just not like this.” And in Kei’s eyes, she can see that her little boy is slowly breaking down, although even if that’s the case, she’ll remain strong for the two of them. And just never let go, “Then don’t.” She whispered as she rubs the small of her son’s back. “Is Yamada-kun asking you to give up on him? Is Yamada-kun asking you to not believe in him? He is not, right? So…” an understanding smile, “Don’t give up on him. Don’t go astray from what you believe, because if you believe that he’ll wake up. He will. So fight, okay my little Yuri? Fight, for the both of you. Fight, just like what I did for your father, until his last breath.” She consoled as she let her child cry into her arms. Since that’s the only thing that her child needs someone who’ll remain strong and catch him during his worst times and his fall.
…
Meanwhile, inside a hospital room that is filled with sunflowers-his favorite one at that, lashes slowly flutter as brown eyes gently open itself once again for the world, making everyone in the room stare in shocked happiness. However before the owner of those eyes let out a smile, his lips, it pronounced a sound hoarse and dry, but still hearable enough that made everyone smile. “Yu-Yu…ri…” And finally, Yamada Ryosuke is back, after three years of deep slumber. Finally now, he's back home-home to where his Yuri is and where his heart belongs. "...mm' ho...home." And as he is being greeted by family and friends, who missed him most, the sunflowers that filled his room, swayed with the wind, as it sends to the world their meaning-a dedicated love.
