Character Histories:

Shinkarru and Locke:
Shinkarru was the only son of a rich Merchant Family with a Noble lineage. All his life he was been tutored and trained to inherit the Family Business. His Father was a ruthless Businessman who had no moral qualms with dealing in the shadier aspects of the Black Market.

Due to this aspect of the family business, Shinkarru lead a life where bodyguards were considered closer than Parents and an early passage into adulthood.

The sky was dark; it had been raining ceaselessly for an entire week and fifteen year old Shinkarru thought life couldn't get anymore miserable. The young merchant Heir of the Sumizome Family kicked a rather large pebble lying in the mud in front of him with such force that it nearly brained a small huddling form by the bridge. This action shook a semi-surprised grunt from one of the two bodyguards behind him.

Peering ahead, Shinkarru squinted at the shivering shape he had almost seriously hurt and gasped, it was a tiny figure of a boy scarcely 4 years old. Spurred by his discovery, he quickly ran towards the bridge and squatted down right in front of the mud spattered form.

"Are you alright? I'm sorry if I scared you."

He reached out a hand only to freeze in mid motion as large, teary, light brown eyes stared at him frightfully.

"Uhm where's your mommy? Are you lost? How come you're so dirty?"

Seeing the figure of the boy back away terrified, a small gasp of utter fear escaping from his mouth in his haste to get away, the young merchant Heir felt a small twinge of pain in his heart.

He decided, then and there, that no matter what. The small frightened boy would never have to feel such fear again.

After that faithful meeting, against the numerous protests of his two bodyguards, he brought the shivering form back with him to his Clan's Compound.

He argued long and hard with his strict father, offered to run away and even do Harakiri in order to keep the trembling child.

In the end, forced into a corner his father consented with the condition that the boy would just be another servant. Shinkarru protested and won the small concession of getting the youth granted as his very own body servant.

Locke was likely a child abandoned on the streets by a prostitute who was pregnant with a foreigner's child and found herself unable to support a child or as a part of a family caught in the Flesh Trade and lost during the transport. Neither Shinkarru or Locke himself ever found out which.

Karl, John and the Gogakus:

One of Jutatsu's sisters, Gogaku Kasumi, was sent to Germany in order to learn about foreign trading techniques; a practice prevalent at that time in rich and noble families.

The Gogaku family, although also a Daimyo Clan with rich trading roots, were pretty liberal for their time. Daughters were given the same opportunities as the men in the household but even then, they weren't allowed to inherit the family business. Hence, they were encouraged to seek riches of their own.

During Kasumi's stay in Germany, she fell in love with a fellow student in University by the name of Mikhael vohn Quinn. She was introduced to the Quinn family and soon after graduation, married the kind Mikhael.

Karl vohn Quinn was Mikhael's older brother and trained to inherit most of the Family Business which was the Quin Ironworks factory.

After a year and a half, Kasumi received a letter asking about her whereabouts with which she replied that she was fine and living in semi-luxury. The Gogaku family, always the opportunists, asked Kasumi if the vohn Quinns would consent to be their clan's suppliers of Ironworks with which the Gogaku's could then retail exclusively in Japan. Delighted at the prospect of earning a lot of new revenue, the vohn Quinns soon set Karl to a ship sailing first to India where he would then take a connecting ship with the Brittish-India Marine Shipping Company, towards to Japan.

On his connecting ship Karl meets the son of the Duke of Urvemille ,who was the Heir of the prosperous "Brittish-India Marine Shipping Company", by the name of John Clarence Urvemille. They became somewhat pleasant acquaintances but could never be considered close friends.

They did however find the common ground of going to Japan in order to open a trading deal with the Gogaku Clan.
