Things I like about the city:

the hats at the N R W station at 23rd st.
school
the guy with the jittery dolls and the keyboard at the 42nd st station
my apartment
the small children on my block
waiting for trains

Things I don't like about the city:

the crowds everywhere
my job
the black dust that coats everything
the hard right angles
not having any trees around
not knowing anyone
people who jinx the subway by constantly looking up the track to see if the train is coming

I finally got a job at this place called Rickshaw Dumpling Bar which totally blows - its essentially take-out asian food and i stand in the kitchen and yell orders in this crazy code. but it's a job - and it leaves my weekends free which is nice. life feels uneasy right now - break ups suck and i feel lonely and still out of place in this city. school is the one redeeming aspect of all this - I feel proud of what i'm doing and i'm doing well. we've been working with sugar, last week we made peanut brittle, fudge, divinity, creme brulee, italian buttercream and dry caramel and started to play with gluten. I love getting back into it all and i love learning the process behind it all. its great to get my hands dirty again and finally be working with great indgrediants and equiptment (new Whusthof knives all my own! and steel to hone them! A triple level deck oven!)
for some reason i really love the subway - I don't mind waiting because you never have to wait long and it feels the way someone once described quaker meeting to me - a bunch of people being "alone together" (although not in that kind purposeful way) and i spend a lot of time on trains and it gives me time to think and read and not have anywhere else i should be or could be.
I miss the fall in new england - its wierdly warm here
