We're already discuss the match, but you know that SNL sketch where someone (Jason Alexander?) comes up with really good comebacks like 10 minutes too late? That's how I felt the defense was -- either way behind, or so far ahead their intentions could be read by a blind man. Like, how many times did you see them start sprinting for a ball and go "Wait. You seriously think you're going to get to that? OH GOD!" *cover eyes*? (I wasn't the only one, right?)
I hope everyone has a really long tape session today -- with a special, personal one set aside for Giovinco, who is definitely smart enough to know how much better he makes the team when he PASSES THE BALL -- so they can just sit and see the mistakes they made. Everything seemed so much more mental than anything else to me.
Is that Bocchetti's head all over Giovinco? IT IS!! ♥_♥
LOL @ your DF description! The timing is off I agree. Bocchetti was lucky he had Criscito to save his ass on the left side :P
Everything seemed so much more mental than anything else to me. Srsly, Giovinco is not dumb and I hope he would realize how shite he was against Greece that he will make peace with Mario. Cuz it seems they're going to be a partner for awhile since Lippi is resisting calling Mario up (which i think it is perfectly reasonable. I don't want us to rush only to spoil supermario)
Tho pierluigi is always PMS-ing on the sideline, I have no idea how tough he is with the boys. That's where Costacurta will make a perfect addition to the team. he'll beat the crap out of Giovinco if he has to XD
hee ♥ and thanks for your baby support, especially when the senior team gave me a facepalm moment like this -_- (gambit hurts in first min WTF)
It's weird that when he gets frustrated he turns selfish (I don't know if he's thinking that way, but it's how his play looks), when what makes him so good is really his ability to create for others. (Did you see his quotes today, about "making the same mistakes" as the Olympics, and something about Mario learning to show his quality in the team? A liiiittle worrying he doesn't seem to think he has any responsibility.)
That's a good point, I wish we had a fly on the wall to tell us what goes on in training, and how those guys are treated/are allowed to behave.
Welcome! You totally enabled me in learning to love them! &hearts (God. The announcer on Setanta was just gutted for Cyprus, b/c the loss was so undeserved. Dammit, Lippi, you're supposed to be the magic man!)
Not only the abysmal performance of senior team ruined my day today, the serious lack of slashiness bothers me too. I hope next time Monty would implement his come-hitcher strategy and Beppe will import his dork dancing routines ROFFLES
I have no idea why Giovinco's teamwork is going down south. (did he say that *shakes head* let's see how's he behavin' this Tuesday then *frets*)
awww~ i'm glad i inspired your Azzurrini ~LUV~ let's hope the boys would do us proud, finally >=O (oh, we so not deserve a win. I hope after this game, i won't see Barzagli wearing Azzurri shirt ever again! GAH!!)
I know that you might kill me for this, but I'm beginning to suspect that Bocchetti might not be talented enough to make it much further than Euro 2009 for Italy... it boggles my mind that Casiraghi has not yet realized that daisies like Bocchetti, Andreolli, and Criscito have to play with hard-tackling enforcers like Coda! Not with each other!
This is what cost us the Olympics, and it might end up costing us qualification for this U21 Euro because Croatia has a very good squad. If this Greece game caused a permanent rendition of my palm to appear on my forehead (from all the facepalming of course) because of all the defensive lapses (and exacerbated exponentially by todays World Cup qualifier... mamma mia), then imagine what the Croatia game will do... because the current crop of Croatians are pretty good.
Oh well, at least Casiraghi would be fired then. As you might tell, I'm not liking him much at the moment. *is mad that the present sucks and the future seems like it's going to entail more suck*
*laughs* Naw, I won't take it personally, don't worry -- if he's not good enough, he's not good enough. I'd love for him to get some regular time in Serie A this season, that can only help his timing and toughness, but Ferrari is preferred to him right now, so that looks like it's a ways off yet ...
Not to expect the worst and jinx them or anything, but IF they were to lose to Croatia, how many teams go into the playoffs? Four? Would their chance of getting into that be reasonably good?
Yeah, I read somewhere that Italy will most likely go through even with a loss. But for once, I'd love to see them playing well... what a fantasy.
I honestly don't mean to be so hard on Bocchetti. I've said it before, but he has GREAT technique on the ball for a defender and is usually sensible positionally. In retrospect, it seems more probable to me that his poor play of late has to do with the kind of guys he's partnering in central defense --- Bocchetti, Andreolli, and Criscito are essentially variations of the same type of central defenders, the guys who have inherited the now defunct's libero's skill set (I like to call it the Baresi role). IMO what we need at this level isn't two Baresis, but rather Baresi + Costacurta.
Perhaps someday Casiraghi will come to realize this. Until then, Bocchetti WILL suffer playing as centerback for the Azzurrini, and so will other talented players such as Andreolli and Criscito. *sigh*
Facchetti and Scirea must be turning in their graves... what a match against Cyprus!
then who would you think will be a perfect partner for Bocchetti/Andreolli/Criscito? how about Santacroce? and why the hell Casiraghi snubbed him!?
It amazed me that half-fit Cannavaro (who hasn't played any full match yet after recently came back from injury) still defended better than Barzagli. Get well soon, Chiellini!!
Santacroce is like a hybrid of the two breeds of great central defenders. That's why he's pretty much the only defender in this current crop that has a chance of being world class. I think of him as a more sophisticated Chiellini. Theoretically, he could make a great partnership with the more technical defenders we're drowning in (I say theoretically because I've never actually seen him play with any of the three... perhaps you might have
( ... )
I saw him featured a couple of times in Azzurrini but in those games, our babies totally outplayed the opponents I could hardly grade the DF :\
You're right. I noticed Bocchetti has issues with headers. I so hope he'd improve in a good time like Genoa (and I'm talking about Biava as a role model. don't even mention Ferrari >=O)
From total of 3 games I saw U-19 playing, I'm not impressed with Tagliani at all. Gentili, however, looks like a good prospect (but Atalanta sent him to C2 this term, WTF. I'm cool with C1 but C2? srsly?) Albertazzi is too young but he showed some promises. I can't wait to see Tuia! Is he in Lazio's senior team now? :\
Well, Tagliani is actually a fullback who had to fill in for Gentili because of his suspension (red card). I think he did brilliantly in an unfamiliar role in the game against Hungary. As far as the game against Germany goes, I could also conclude from that that Forestieri, Poli, Paloschi *goes on to list 3/4 of team w/ exception of Fiorillo* are crap too. Something went drastically wrong in the final and I think it had everything to do with inexperience and wasn't a true gauge of the potential of most of our boys. Darmian and Bruscagin, on the other hand, never settled into their NATURAL roles. That's why I'm still willing to give Tagliani a chance
( ... )
i base my POV on 3 games ;) so i approve Forestieri & Poli (Paloschi, on the other hand, had a poor tourney)
you're right about Tagliani played in unfamiliar role. but wasn't Gentili supposed to be a fullback also? look how he effortlessly fit in there. but again, Tagliani might be a different kind of fullback. Darmian was bad but Bruscagin was simply atrocious. i hope Rocca wakes the fuck up and call different players (and it seems he did actually. Rocca snubs Bruscagin and calls Inter's Andrea Mei & Santon. was this Santon kid good? he's only 17!)
Can't Lazio let Tuia kid go on loan if they don't intend to use him? My Parma would welcome him with open arms hahaha. srsly, i wanna see how good he is after reading you hyping him like this. BRING HIM ON!!!
(it's ok. i would pretend i didn't know about you having a crush on Tuia to maintain you unbiased opinion ROFFLES XD)
see. I never seen any of U-19 playing, aside from limited exposure to Paloschi & Forestieri, so I don't know the how they flair in their natural positions. But I like Gentili a lot and i'll keep track of his progress, tho it'd be mission impossible cuz he's now in C2 *stabs Atlanta sport director*
I really want to see how Tuia performs with the big boys. I think I need to pay attention to Lazio's game lineup naow :P especially coppa games. (And I hope LDS stays away from Tuia. I mean, they'll be totally hot together but we don't need another Prima Donna, kay?)
I mean, everyone loves pretty footie but the crush will to go far if they suck LOL tho I think I have my certain taste but personality & slashtastic factor can more than compensate the look XD (see Deseena. He's cute but not like cute-cute. but man, when he sluts it out on the pitch, what's not to love ♥)
As for Tuia, i saw only 2 pics of him so it's too early for me to judge how hot the boy is :P but i agree that amazing performance will offset any cosmetic performance. I
