Because I can. And I have a vague memory that it might have even gone around before, but I don't care, so complete is my meme-declaring.
Name 5 or more songs that you completely adore but would be totally mortified to admit you adore, because it would so screw up the cool/indie/goth/hip-hop/dance/whatever vibe everyone knows you for. If it's

2. As did that.
3. This, not as much. I'm with you on that. I played it when I "dee-jayed" at my sister's wedding reception, just to be obnoxious. And no one danced. Even though the lyrics were shrieking "Everybody dance now!!", they were completely insubordinate.
4. I like that one, too. (And the codpiece comment - BWAH!)
5. Not really sure who these folks are, but I still support your admitting it. :D

I once played this on the jukebox at a bar, and the mood for the room took a total nosedive. The people I was with wouldn't let up on me for totally killing the buzz of the place. When it was over and a more upbeat song came on, they all remarked how relieved everybody looked. :) Fuckers.
3. Punk cover versions of anything.
So I take it you've heard of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes? :)
Come On, Eileen
I don't know why, but your mentioning this got a different song stuck in my head. When I worked in a record shop in the 80's this one tall skinny blonde girl would come in every couple of weeks to see if we had any more Style Council in. And we never did, but she was very patient. And I think they did that song "Ever Changing Moods," yeah? ::shrugs:: That's the story/song that got stuck in my head when you mentioned DMR. My brain - I'll never figger it out.

1. "Larger Than Life", by the Backstreet Boys...and the worst part is, I used to drive around LA with it blaring loudly in my car, "singing" along to it *hides head in shame*
2. "Fool Country" (from the movie Xanadu) by Olivia Newton-John (or ONJ, as the cool kids know her). Since the moment the soundtrack to Xanadu was released, I could never figure out why the last batch of songs (which included "Fool Country") and the super-extended roller disco version of the song "Xanadu" were never released on vinyl. OK, I know, but I still wanted a copy of the song...thank goodness for Napster, and now the greatest hits collection from ONJ, which has "Fool Country" for the first time on CD. Wheeeeeee!
3. "Enough is Enough" by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. Enough said.
4. "Live Your Life, Be Free" by Belinda Carlisle. Nobody knows this song (or any other Belinda Carlisle song/album released after the Heaven is a Place on Earth album), because it never received any airplay on MTV or the radio...but I ( ... )

Admitting it is the first step. ::hugs you::
2. All Xanadu music is a guilty pleasure. And the movie had Gene Kelly in it, which excuses every other offense of which it's guilty.
3. "Enough is Enough" by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. Enough said.
4. "Live Your Life, Be Free" by Belinda Carlisle.
Aren't these two required to get your Gay Club membership? ::ducks::
OK, FINE! I completely adore "Your Body is a Wonderland" by John Mayer. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW!?!?
:) I completely adore it too, so much so that I'm not even that aware of how lame it is, but I keep being told so. Actually, I have an acoustic version that I downloaded at some point, and I'm sorry, it's even cooler that way. It's just little and quiet and personal that way, and much sexier than the big produced version, IMO. So we have solidarity on that, never fear.

Okay, but just be advised: it's a song about Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Bleh.

I diffuse the shame by listening to the Weird Al version "Bought It On eBay". Not that that's cool, :-/ but Al nails the music and harmonies, and at least I'm making fun of it that way.
